Believers Economic Empowerment Network Initiatives Hope For Vulnerable In FCT
By Joel Ajayi
Like those of its ilk, Believers Economic Empowerment Network BEENET is doing its part in the humanitarian sector and is reaching out not just to the underprivileged and vulnerable, but many others seeking its assistance whether in skills. acquisition, health, and empowerment of various sorts, particularly those passing through trying times
BEENET an Abuja based religious Non-Governmental organization in the last three years of its existence has put several initiatives in Tundun-Wada Community Lugbe an initiative that has brought restoration unity and Love among the people for the progress and prosperity of the country.
BEENET Initiative in the Tudunwada community has been at the fore forefront of harnessing young talents within the community for the kingdom and mentoring them to use their talents for the benefit of society.
The interventions put in place to right the wrong in the communities include Bible quizzes for children, skills acquisition, and empowerment for vulnerable ones among others, impacted thousands of people, young and old across the Tundun-Wada Community, populated with about 100,000 residents in Lugbe area of Nigeria’s capital city.
In truth, an integral objective of the organization has been to put joyous smiles on the faces of indigent people, be they young, or old, without discrimination to gender.
Speaking at this year’s edition of the Bible bee quiz on Friday, September 6 in the Tundun Wada Community in Abuja, the founder and Executive Director of the BEENET initiative, Sandra Iroanya, expressed the fact that she desires to see a revival of love, unity, and peace in the community
According to her, “Our emphasis is on community-based, community-driven interventions. We go into Communities, we try to unite the believers, you know, so that together as the body of Christ. within communities, we can come together and transform the community; that is our objective
“We have been working little by little and the Tundun Wada community is the very first community where we have been engaging. Though we equally have our eyes on two other communities, Tundun Wada is like our prototype.”
Speaking on the area of empowerment, the Executive Director said: “Been is a Christian organization,. Our emphasis is to be light, like the scripture says, that the church of Jesus is the light of the world,
“And there is darkness everywhere, and the church is supposed to be the solution, so what we do is we go into communities, and this is the message we take to them, We say, see, instead of, you know, every church just sitting in their various denominations and buildings and all of that, can we, irrespective of the denomination come together, within the communities that we are in and see what we can do in the community.
“There are a lot of things happening in the communities, you know. I mean, the youths, look at the moral decadence, there is poverty, occultism, prostitution, people are crying, no food, elderly people, there are health challenges, and there are many challenges, and the scripture is not just about spiritual needs only – the spirit, soul, and body need to be Okay.”
One of the members of the community Pastor Felix Omiji applauded BEENET which has in the last few years brought hope and transformation to the community.
According to him, BEENET has been doing a lot of community assistance, to make sure that the community is transformed
“Like what we know in those days, like in our days, community-trained children, from one house to another, but right now we don’t see that in communities. But with the coming of BEENET here that has changed.
“People begin to love themselves the way they ought to. And you can see right now what is happening among the youth. A lot is going on. The children are being brought up in the way of God. And that is why we have a Bible quiz going on right now.
“And not only that, the elders, they love themselves. They are united coming together, bringing them together. One unit in one body and they are working together as brothers and sisters. That ought to be from the beginning. They take care of one another. And how did they do such? Because we have what we call a food bank, you can contribute your little quota to the food bank.
“It may be a cup of rice or a cup of beans. Or whatever you have, you can contribute to that food bank so that those who don’t have, we give to them from the food bank, though honestly, the community has truly transformed from one level to a higher level,
“Also, we have a lot of rascality among the youths, but with the coming of BEENET, that has reduced a lot because the pastors are engaging them and bringing them together to say, look, this is not the only thing you can do. You can help yourself. You can do better than this. And you can be a better person than you are right now.”
As for elated Sunday Chinedu, “My joy is that Beenet isn’t an organization that emphasizes denomination, like say you are a Redeemed, a Catholic or Apostolic, or Dunamite it’s all denominations coming together to transform the community
“Before I became a member of Beenet, on Fridays I didn’t go anywhere I just stayed idle wasting my time. But when I got to know about BEENET, I was no longer wasting my time anytime I came to Been where I was impacted. BEENET has helped me to unleash my talent.
“The bible bee competition has helped me to know God’s word and renewed me spiritually, mentally, and socially, and I am happy.
“BEENET is a place of joy for me; they are motivators, they changed my life, and with this when I grow up I will have something like this so I can equally impact many lives.”
Meanwhile, this year’s Bible bee competition saw many competitions where the children displayed their talent to the core.
However, at the end of the 2024 Bible Bee Competition, Chinedu Sunday came as the overall winner, Treasure Bright came second, while Abigail Barnabas and Esther Mbila jointly won the third position
In the Bible Recitation category, Esther Mbila and Treasure Bright came 1st, Chinedu Sunday 2nd, and Peculiar Chukueben won the third position.
As for Bible Sword, Amarachi Emeka, Peculiar Chukueben and Abigail Barnabas won ist, 2nd, and third positions respectively.
In the Spelling Bee, Treasure Bright won 1st, Jenice Ameh emerged 2nd and Chinedu Sunday came third.

PSIN Administrator Commends Yobe Government for Championing Leadership Continuity and Institutional Sustainability
Cyril Igele
The Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), Barrister Imeh Okon, has applauded the Yobe State Government for its strong commitment to leadership continuity and sustainable governance through strategic investment in human capital development.
Barrister Okon gave the commendation at the opening of a Management Retreat for Yobe State Permanent Secretaries, held at the PSIN headquarters in Abuja.
The retreat, themed “Succession Planning, Leadership Continuity, and Institutional Sustainability in the Yobe State Public Service,” convened senior bureaucrats and resource persons to discuss strategies for strengthening leadership and governance within the state’s civil service.
In her remarks, the PSIN Administrator praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for his foresight and partnership in prioritizing public sector training and capacity development. She described the theme of the retreat as both “timely and visionary,” emphasizing that institutions endure only when leadership is continuous, knowledge is shared, and systems—not individuals—drive performance.
“Institutions thrive not merely on structures or policies, but on the deliberate cultivation of capable leaders who can sustain progress across generations,” she said. “By prioritizing leadership continuity and institutional resilience, Yobe State is leading by example.”
Barrister Okon reiterated PSIN’s mandate to build a competent, ethical, and innovative public service capable of delivering tangible results to citizens. She stressed that effective succession planning must be anchored in continuous training, mentorship, and exposure to emerging governance trends.
Citing best practices from Singapore and the United Kingdom, Okon noted that successful public service systems deliberately identify and nurture potential leaders through structured talent pipelines and transparent career development programmes. According to her, Yobe State’s initiative reflects its readiness to sustain excellence in governance.
She also highlighted PSIN’s flagship programmes—SMART-P, which builds administrative and technical capacity; LEAD-P, designed to groom emerging leaders; and the Exit from Service Masterclass, which prepares officers for life after service. Okon urged the Yobe Government to adopt the Exit Masterclass into its human resource framework to ensure a smooth transition for retirees, preserve institutional knowledge, and promote productivity through entrepreneurship and consultancy.
“Succession planning is not an event but a culture that must be institutionalised at every level of public administration,” she added. “When we prepare successors in advance and invest in continuous learning, we guarantee the sustainability of reforms and consistency in governance.”
Declaring the retreat open, the Acting Head of Service of Yobe State, Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu, reaffirmed Governor Buni’s commitment to building a results-driven and high-performing public service.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service, Alhaji Shehu, the Acting Head of Service expressed gratitude to God and lauded PSIN as the “mother institution of public service learning.” He stated that Governor Buni has consistently directed the Office of the Head of Service to promote seamless succession planning and capacity building to enhance efficiency and accountability across government institutions.
“In line with this directive, we have brought the top echelon of the state civil service to PSIN—being the drivers and core implementers of government policies and programmes—to strengthen continuity and sustainability in our reforms,” he said.
He urged participants to fully engage in the retreat, share experiences, and cascade the knowledge gained to officers across ministries, departments, and agencies. The exercise, he explained, forms part of a deliberate strategy to institutionalize effective succession planning within the Yobe State Civil Service, thereby ensuring sustained productivity and improved service delivery to citizens.
