Blue House Wins 17th GDSS Annual Inter House Sports…former sports minister,Dalung promises to support school’s cultural group

Blue House has emerged overall winners of 17th annual inter house sports of Government Day Secondary School, Karu

After several hours of competing in various events. Blue House garnered 272 points to emerge champions of the seventeen sports fiesta.

The competition which involved four houses and held at the schools premises had Yellow and Green emerging second and third with 202 and 176 respectively as Red with 158 points finished fourth.

Speaking after the contest,the principal Mrs Onuagwu N.A commended the Chairman, Secondary School Education Board, students,teachers and parents who made event possible through their support.

She also assured that as long as she is the principal,sports will remain an important curriculum of the school.

The former Minister of Youth and Sports Development,Barr Solomon Selcap Dalung commended the school for making sports a stable of the School while re-emphasizing the important role sports play in the holistic development of a child .

He, however, call on government to pay more than usual attention to sports at primary,secondary and tertiary institution saying it is the best way to combat crime,social vices and unrest

Dalung, now went ahead to make a promise to Sponsor a cultural festival in the school after the wonderful display of the school cultural group.

Nigeria’s own Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi has brought immense pride to the nation after being named the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) Role Model of the Year at a ceremony held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The biennial ISCA Awards honour individuals and organizations that use sports and physical activity as tools for social change, inclusion, and empowerment across the globe. This year’s edition drew nominations from several countries, spotlighting outstanding figures who have transformed their communities through the power of sports.
Atoyebi’s unwavering commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment has made her a prominent voice in the sports-for-development space. Through her advocacy and leadership, she continues to demonstrate how sports can serve as a bridge for education, unity, and hope—especially among young women in Nigeria and beyond.
As part of the recognition, Atoyebi received a €3,000 cash prize along with the global visibility that accompanies the prestigious ISCA honour.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award, she expressed deep gratitude and excitement, dedicating the recognition to her team and everyone who has supported her journey.

It’s a testament to the hard work my team and I have put in over the years,” Atoyebi said. “Being recognised on such an international stage proves that no effort toward positive change ever goes unnoticed.
