Budget Defense: Work Hard To Deliver Tinubu’s  Sports Restoration Mandate,  House Committee Urges NSC, NFF. NIS


…Commends President Tinubu, Assures National Assembly Support

The Chairman House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu has called on National Sports Commission, Nigeria Football Federation and National Institute of Sports to work hard towards achieving the President Ahmed Tinubu’s Sports for economy Renewed Hope mandate to grow Sports sector in the Country.


Amadu who is representing good of people of  Gusau/Tsafe Federal constituency in Zamfara State, also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on increments of the 2025 budget for Sports from N29 billion in 2025 to over N94 billion.


Speaking on Teusday in Abuja at National Assembly Chamber during the budget defence of NSC, NFF and NIS Amadu call for optimal utilization of the allocations in year 2025 budget for growth of Sports.


He said: “The President of Federal Republic of Nigeria has tripled the budget of the sports from N29,082,369,979:00 in 2024 to N94,947,006,325:00 in 2025. The leap in the expenditure framework represent 227% increment. 


“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hereby commended for the giant strides in the budgetary allocations to the sports sector. It is our hope and belief that, the increment in budgetary allocation would mark a turning point in the development, administration and management of sports activities in Nigeria.”


Honourable Amadu added, “we envisage that the problems of decaying sports infrastructure across the country, especially the National stadiums, lack of funds for over forty federations, pack of sustainable development plans, lack of perequisite manpower, training needed to make the nation excel in sports would be tackled and justified with the increment.


He however, promised the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation and National Sports Institute of the  National Assembly support in making the funds released by the federal government for sports development.


“The House Committee on Sports is assuring the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Sports Institute of total support in making sure that the funds are accessed from the federal government with ease. Doing this, on our part leads to sports development particularly at the grassroots.”

“Let me reiterate that this Committee is statutorily saddled with the responsibilities of oversight of Sports activities and sports administraton amongst others.


“In furtherance of its statutory duties, we invited you to give account o 2024 Appropriation Act, as a prelude to the approval year 2025 but proposals.


“The essence of today’s budget defence, is in sync with the provisions of Section 88 & 89 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nige (as amended)


“It is also in accord with the avowed commitment of the Committee to ensure that, agencies under its purview perform their constitutional mandates in spheres of sports promotion, administration to the benefit of the greatest majority of Nigerians.


“You are assured of due diligence and constructive engagement in a bid to promote sports development to an enviable pedestal


“We are not only poised to ensure positive improvement in the sports sector but also put in place mechanism to realize our goals.


“I hereby implore you to justify the confidence reposed on you by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians by deploying your wealth of experience In ensuring optimal utilization of the allocations in year 2025 budget, when approved and passed by National Assembly.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has commended the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, for initiating the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches, describing it as a transformational project that will boost Nigeria’s economy.


Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Speaker Abbas praised the initiative and pledged the National Assembly’s full support.


 “This is a noble project, and the National Assembly will give it full support. I congratulate the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation, and I thank FIFA for agreeing to fund this project,” he stated while cutting the ceremonial tape.


He also assured the House of Representatives’ support for the visionary leadership of Engineer Ibrahim Musa Gusau and the NFF in other key areas where assistance is required.

Leading the FIFA delegation, Gelson Fernandes (Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer/Regional Director, Africa) reiterated FIFA’s commitment to funding the project, emphasizing that infrastructure development has been a priority since the tenure of President Gianni Infantino began.

Expressing his excitement, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau stated that the hostel and training pitches will serve all Nigerian national teams, leagues, and academies.


“Indeed, my joy knows no bounds. From the day my Executive Committee and I were sworn into office in Benin City on Friday, 30th September 2022, I was determined to push this project forward as a legacy for Nigerian football.
“For sustained success, we must provide a conducive environment, infrastructure, equipment, and support systems that enable players and officials to perform at their best.

“Building a players’ hostel and having new training pitches will not only enhance team management but also reduce costs, allowing us to invest more in grassroots development programs.”
Several dignitaries present at the event applauded Gusau’s leadership, determination, and commitment to football development in Nigeria.


The event was well attended by local and international stakeholders, including sports enthusiasts, who witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and Training Pitches.

In addition to the hostel, the project includes:Two new training pitches (one synthetic and one natural grass). Reconstruction of the existing synthetic pitch.


Also, Spectators’ sitting terraces with 1,838 seats.Two dressing rooms for players, each accommodating 27 players.Two dressing rooms for officials.

The construction is expected to last 24 months and is fully funded by FIFA under its FIFA Forward 3.0 programme.
