CEO AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria charges Imo stakeholders to work for peace, security of the state

The National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, Princess Gloria Akobundu, fsi has made a passionate appeal to stakeholders and community leaders to work for the peace and security of the state.


Akobundu stated this when she had a meeting with Isiala Mbano Stakeholders which includes LGA Executives,Ward Chairmen, Coordinators, women Group and other Critical community leaders in Owerri, Imo State Capital.


“There can not be any meaningfully development without peace and security in the state”, she said.


Akobundu added that the loss of lives and economic activities in the state as well as the region due to insecurity was not benefiting the people of the state and region rather it’s reversing the gains made by hard working people of the region.
Akobundu appealed to the stakeholders to speak to the youths and all those giving the state and region bad reputation to have a rethink, come to the negotiations table and put forward their grievances while expressing optimism that their plight would be looked into.


Speaking further, she urged the community leaders to create opportunity for youths and those aggrieved to positively and properly channel their complaints rather than result to violence means. 
The AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria CEO added that Imo State and the Eastern Region at large was not known for insecurity but for industrialization, commercialisation and education, saying  the region pride itself in those areas over the years.


He equally used the opportunity to encourage people of the state to support the state government led by HE, Governor Hope Uzodinma in his quest to deliver dividends of democracy and good governance to the people of the state.


Akobundu who is a stalwart of the ruling APC equally used the opportunity to canvas vote for the APC presidential candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tunubu, calling on people of the region to vote him adding that Tunubu while as a governor in Lagos State distinguished himself and appointed a lot of people from other regions including South -East as part of his cabinet.


Later in a separate meeting, Akobundu while speaking to Okigwe Women First Alliance Forum, equally used the opportunity to call on the women whom she described as change agents to use their God given role to dissuade their children and wards from participating in any act capable of destabilizing the peace of the State and Region.


She said her Agency, which has the mandate to promote Socio- economic and Political development in the country is doing a lot in ensuring that development spread across the country.


Highlighting some of the areas the Agency is currently working on, Akobundu said the Agency is implementing the Innovative Strengthening of Smallholder farmers capability and land restoration amid COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria as well as the Juncoa technology transfer project under the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP).


She also added that the Agency is embarking on Good Governance tour as well as the sensitization and campaign on violence free and credible elections across the country as the 2023 elections draws near.


On youth engagement, the Agency created the APRM Youth Vanguard, a platform for youths to educate, enlighten and sensitize their peers as well as create room for them to share ideas and network with their peers across the continent, she said.


The Okigwe Women First Alliance Forum later went on their kneels to pray for peace and security of the state,the region and the country in general.

Musawa Seeks Broader Significance for June 12

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Esq., says June 12 must be remembered as a sacrifice that gave Nigerians democracy, beyond its status as a public holiday.


In a statement signed on Saturday by the Senior Assistant Media & Publicity to the Honourable Minister,Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy Dr Nneka Ikem Anibeze Ph.D in Abuja.

Musawa stated this at the national premiere of “MKO”, a film on Chief Moshood Abiola, held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Lagos, to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.


She said 33 years after June 12, 1993, many young Nigerians know it only as a holiday, but the film turns it back into memory.


“For too many young Nigerians, June 12 is simply a public holiday. This film tells them that our democracy did not arrive by chance. It was fought for. It was defended. It was paid for. This documentary is in honour of the heroes of June 12, the men and women who gave their lives for the mandate of June 12, 1993 and for the democracy Nigeria enjoys today,” the Minister said.


Musawa hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Host, for his participation in the June 12 struggle and paying the price in exile, adding that Nigeria’s creative industry will keep telling the story of its democracy with courage.


“Through film and the creative economy, Nigeria will preserve its history. A nation that forgets its past loses its way to the future. Nigeria has a story and our story deserves to be told,” she said.


Earlier, the director of the investigative documentary, Ose Oyamendan, said the film was in honour and memory of heroes who fought for Nigeria’s democracy.


“There was Hope ’93 and now there is Renewed Hope. There was a man who sacrificed his life so we may have democracy and there is a man who almost lost his life fighting for democracy who is now helping build a lasting democracy.


“There was a great man called Bashorun MKO Abiola and there is now another great man called Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Democrats. Nationalists. Nation builders. Leaders of men and women. We must never forget our story. We must always honour and remember our heroes,” Oyamendan said.


Top government officials including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the wife of the President Senator Oluremi Tinubu;  Senate President  Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Chief of Staff to the President Rt. Femi Gbajabiamila, state Governors, members of the National Assembly, Ministers and other distinguished dignitaries attended the premiere.
