Cricket: Edo, Lagos Secure Win As Women’s Championship Begins

Edo and Lagos states have both secured wins on the first day of the Nigeria Cricket Federation ,NCF, Women’s Championship in Abuja.


The tournament ongoing at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja saw Edo beat Kaduna state by 61 runs in the first game of the day. 


Kaduna won the toss and opted to field but couldn’t not do much to restrict the batting prowess of the Edo state side.


Edo scored 115 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. 
While trying to chase the target, Kaduna could only settle for 54 runs as they lost all 10 wickets in 16.3 overs, with Edo claiming a 61 run win.


The second game of the day ended in favour of the Lagos state side as the claimed a 69 run win against Anambra.


Anambra won the toss and opted to field, but Lagos showed sheer dominance with the bat scoring 118 for the loss of two in 20 overs.


Anambra in reply could only manage 49 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs, giving Lagos the win with 69 runs. Meanwhile Anambra, Edo, Kogi, Ekiti, Gombe, Lagos, Akwa Ibom and Kaduna are currently participating in the tournament scheduled to end on Sunday.

First Lady, Remi Tinubu Declares African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship Open Today

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, will declare open the much-awaited 2025 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship (AWVCC25) today, Thursday, in the Federal Capital Territory. Sixteen clubs from across the continent will compete for top honors in the prestigious tournament.


The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) had earlier announced that the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, would serve as the Grand Patron of the championship.

First Lady will be present at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, to officially declare the tournament open.


Excitement is building in Abuja as preparations reach their final stage. A technical meeting was held on Wednesday night, during which organizers reaffirmed their readiness to host a successful tournament.


Hosted by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the championship will run from April 1st to April 14th at the multipurpose sports hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.


The event promises to be a showcase of top-tier volleyball talent from across the continent.

while giving hint on the event, Sports Secretary Nigeria Customs Samuel Onikeku at the Technical Meeting on Wednesday said that First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will be at stadium to declared the event open
