In demonstration of NYSC’s pragmatic posture towards the welfare of Corps Members, the Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed has presented insurance cover cheque to the family of Corps Member Juliana Oreoluwa Aina who lost her life in a BRT Bus that was crushed by a train in Lagos in March this year.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director, Press and Public Relations Eddy Megwa revealed that DG addressed the parents and siblings of the deceased at their home in Abuja, the Director General extended the sympathy of the entire Management, Staff and Corps Members to the family.
“All of us in the NYSC family received with great shock the news of the sudden death of our dear sister. Please accept our deepest condolences. We have equally received volumes of condolence messages from far and near when the unfortunate incident occurred”, he said.
Ahmed prayed God to avert such ugly incident from the family and other Corps Members’ families.
He thereafter presented two cheques to the family; one from NYSC’s insurance company, Capital Express Assurance Limited and the other from the late Corps Member’s Health Management Organization.
Earlier, the Scheme’s Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, Mr Ayodele Omotade Folorunsho, while stating the essence of the Director General’s visit to the family said that NYSC has a tradition of presenting cheques to next-of-kins of Corps Members who lost their lives in the course of National Service.
Responding on behalf of the bereaved family, father to the late Corps Member, Mr Oluwafemi John Aina thanked the Director General and his team for identifying with his family in their moment of grief.
He particularly lauded NYSC for its prompt response when the sad event happened.
“Director General Sir, I really commend the NYSC Coordinator in Lagos State, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa and your members of staff, for the swift action they took immediately they heard about our daughter’s death.
They really assisted us all through, even financially. They also stood by us at the time our daughter was laid to rest”, he said.
