In a stunning display of skill and determination, D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, has clinched the Afrobasket championship for an unprecedented fifth consecutive time. Under the expert guidance of Coach Rene Wakama, the team has once again proven their dominance on the continental stage, showcasing not only their athletic prowess but also their unwavering dedication and exceptional teamwork.

“This remarkable achievement has sparked widespread celebration across the nation, with fans and sports enthusiasts alike expressing their pride in the team’s success. As a basketball promoter and the initiator of the Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to D’Tigress and Coach Wakama for this extraordinary accomplishment. Their victory is not just a win for the team but a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring athletes across Nigeria.

“However, as we celebrate this monumental success, it is crucial to recognize the need for sustained investment in the future of basketball in Nigeria. The triumph of D’Tigress serves as a powerful reminder of the potential that exists within our young athletes. To build on this momentum, I urge the Federal Government and the National Sports Commission to take decisive action in strengthening the domestic basketball structure.

“Implementing strategic initiatives aimed at grassroots basketball development is essential. This includes providing young athletes with access to better training facilities, qualified coaching, and necessary resources. By nurturing talent from a young age, we can ensure that the legacy of D’Tigress continues for generations to come.

“The success of D’Tigress is a testament to what can be achieved with dedication and hard work. It is now time for the authorities to invest in the future of basketball in Nigeria, ensuring that our young stars have the support they need to reach their full potential.

“Once again, congratulations to D’Tigress on this outstanding achievement. May your victory inspire a new generation of basketball players, paving the way for even greater successes in the future. With the right support and investment, the sky is the limit for Nigerian basketball.”Mark concluded.

As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence anniversary on Wednesday October 1, Basketball Promoter and Initiator of Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, Mr. Igoche Mark, has commended the country’s athletes for their outstanding contributions.

In a heartfelt message, Mr. Mark praised active and retired athletes for consistently putting Nigeria on the global map through their dedication, hard work, and achievements. “Your dedication, hard work, and achievements have not only brought us pride but have also inspired a generation of Nigerians,” he stated.

The Sports Administrator urged the National Sports Commission to establish a platform to celebrate these athletes and recognize their invaluable contributions to Nigerian sports. He emphasized the need to honour their legacy and provide a framework for their continued involvement in sports after retirement.

To support athletes in transition, Mr. Mark recommended that “retirement plans be implemented to ensure a seamless transition into life after sports. This would enable athletes to plan for their future and maximize their post-athletic careers.”

Furthermore, he proposed a welfare package for retired athletes, including access to healthcare, education, and economic empowerment programs. “By doing so, we can show our appreciation for their service and ensure that they are taken care of,” Mr. Mark added.

As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence anniversary on October 1, with the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” Mr. Mark’s sentiments echo the sentiments of many Nigerians who believe in the importance of recognizing and supporting the country’s athletes.
