Edo Governorship Poll: NYSC Seeks Protection For Corps Members On Election Duty

Director-General, of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has appealed to all stakeholders in the forthcoming Gubernatorial election in Edo State to provide adequate security for the Corps Members that would participate in the election as electoral officers.
He said Corps Members are National assets that are contributing their quota towards national development which should be given public support.
General Ibrahim stated this during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II Ogidigan in his palace.
The NYSC boss, who appreciated the monarch for his support for Corps Members in the Benin Kingdom and NYSC Scheme in Edo State added that the NYSC Management places a high priority on the welfare and security of its Corps Members.
“I want to further solicit for the support of his majesty on the forthcoming election so that the good people of Edo State will see our Corps Members as their children”.
“We want to ensure that our Corps Members are safe as we look forward to a hitch-free election”, the DG added.
In his response, the Oba of Benin commended General Ibrahim for the visit and also for his giant strides since he assumed duty as the 18th Director-General of NYSC.
He said the introduction of the NYSC Scheme has contributed immensely to national unity and the socio-economic development of the country.
The traditional ruler added that the deployment policy of NYSC has afforded many youths the opportunity of knowing other places around the country outside their places of birth which has enabled them to learn their cultures.
The monarch appealed to other stakeholders to ensure that Corps Members serve their fatherland in safe environments, while he also promised his continuous support for the NYSC Scheme.
“We are happy with the NYSC Scheme because it is a good concept for the nation. We are all working together to ensure that there is no violence and that Corps Members are not exposed to harm”, the monarch said.
Omo N’Oba Akpolokpolo allayed the fears of Corps Members adding that the Benin throne is non-partisan.
