Ex NFF Scribe, Fanny Amun Drums Support For Shehu Dikko’s NSC’s Leadership

The Former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Fanny Amun has called on the sports stakeholders in the country  to give the needed   support the administration of Shehu Dikko National Sports Commission’s leadership, saying that doing so would benefit the sports sector immensely.


The renowned figure in Nigerian football, Amun made this appeal on Wednesday in Abuja in a press conference where he expressed that all sports sector in the country need right now is the unity and commitment of all stakeholders.

 According to him, NSC of Nigeria is undergoing a transformative phase with the appointment of Malam Shehu Dikko as Chairman. 


He said that this new development aims to rebuild and formulate policies for better regulation and oversight, ensuring a productive and result-oriented structure from the central to local levels. 


“The sports community has faced long-standing crises, often fueled by self-interest and power struggles. 

“However, with Dikko’s leadership, there’s hope for a fresh start. His appointment is seen as a bold step by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and many acknowledge Dikko as one of the best hands for the job.

“ I want to encourage warring factions to resolve differences and work towards peace in other to foster an environment conducive to sports growth in Nigeria,” he said. 

Amun said that this diversification is crucial for Nigeria, as the country has a vast potential for sports development, which can contribute significantly to the economy. 

“Diversification can bring numerous benefits to Nigerian sports, including: Increased Investment by exploring new revenue streams,Nigerian sports can attract more investors and sponsors.
 “This development aims to rebuild and formulate policies for better regulation and oversight, ensuring a productive and result-oriented structure from the central to local levels. 

“I have already diversified, it’s essential for stakeholders to follow suit to adapt and diversify to propel Nigerian sports to move forward,” he said. 

He  also urged the media to play an intermediary role, promoting peace and encouraging stakeholders to work together. 
“By doing so, Nigeria’s sports sector can move forward, benefiting from the expertise and vision of leaders like  Dikko,” he said.

Cricket: Nigeria To Host ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Cricket Federation , NCF, says it is ready to host five other nations for the International Cricket Council ,ICC, Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.


The tournament is billed for Lagos, with the matches to be held at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square ,TBS, and the University of Lagos ,UniLag, from March 26 to April 6.


Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, said in a statement on Sunday, that the tournament is about celebrating the growth of the game on the continent.


“Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos.
“Our nation is known for its warm hospitality and fascinating cricketing potential, and we are committed to making this qualifier a memorable experience for all.


“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players”, Akpata noted.


However, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone will join Nigeria to jostle for the continent’s sole ticket to the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.


Meanwhile, Nigeria will be hoping to secure the ticket, having achieved same feat in 2019 and competing at the World Cup in South Africa 2020
