Joel Ajayi
The FAME Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Abuja, is proud to announce the appointment of Ms. Folashade Oluwafemiayo, a renowned Nigerian Paralympic Gold Medalist, as its Goodwill Ambassador.
Ms. Oluwafemiayo, Nigeria’s most decorated para-powerlifter, made history at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris by breaking the world record in the women’s powerlifting over 86kg final to win gold. She became the first para-athlete in history to lift 166kg. With such an achievement, Folashade has solidified her place among Nigeria’s brightest stars in the Paralympic Games.
Speaking to the press, Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Executive Director, FAME Foundation, welcomed Folashade Oluwafemiayo as FAME Foundation’s Goodwill Ambassador, stating.
“We are honored to have Folashade Oluwafemiayo as our Goodwill Ambassador. Her incredible achievements on the global stage are a true testament to resilience, determination, and excellence. With her advocacy, we will continue to uplift marginalized communities and empower women and people with disabilities, ensuring they have the opportunities and support to thrive.”
Arabinrin Aderonke emphasized the importance of this partnership,
“Folashade’s story is one of triumph against all odds, and her role as a Goodwill Ambassador will help us highlight the urgent need for inclusivity in all areas of life, from education to sports. We are committed to ensuring that marginalized communities have access to the resources and opportunities they deserve, and Folashade’s influence will play a role in moving this vision forward.”
At the unveiling, Ms. Folashade stated,
“It is a great honor to be named Goodwill Ambassador for FAME Foundation. As a Paralympian, I have seen the strength and potential within the disability community, yet we continue to face discrimination and exclusion in many areas of life, from education to employment and even basic accessibility. Many people with disabilities are held back by unfair barriers that prevent them from fully participating in society. FAME Foundation’s commitment to empowering women, girls, and people with disabilities is something I deeply believe in. I am happy to use my platform to challenge these barriers, raise awareness about inclusion, and create more opportunities for those left behind.”
She also added,
“The journey to inclusion is not just about creating opportunities, it’s about changing mindsets. People with disabilities deserve the same chances as anyone else, and together, we can make a world where no one is left behind because of their abilities.”
Arabinrin Aderonke further emphasized the importance of this partnership,
“As our Goodwill Ambassador, Folashade will work closely with FAME Foundation on various projects, including mentorship programs, advocacy campaigns, and disability inclusion efforts, to promote diversity, equity, and access to opportunities for all.”
She concluded by highlighting that the signing of the MOU with Folashade strengthens FAME Foundation’s commitment to creating lasting change. This partnership will drive initiatives focused on disability inclusion, gender equality, and expanding access to opportunities. With a shared vision to break barriers and inspire a new generation, FAME Foundation is excited to work alongside Folashade to empower marginalized communities and promote meaningful transformation.
