FG Approves Operations of Nigeria Equestrian Federation
The federal government has approved the set-up of the Nigeria Equestrian Federation (NEF), as part of efforts to build a sustainable equestrian ecosystem across the country.
In an official response dated September 2, 2024, and addressed to the President of the NEF, Dr. Obiorah Anthony, the Federal Ministry of Sports, now National Sports Commission (NSC) acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Federation, initially dated May 6, 2024.
The letter proposed strategic partnerships aimed at scaling and expanding the sport of equestrianism nationwide.
The NSC through a letter signed by Ajao Olufemi C. on behalf of the former minister, approved several steps the Federation should take to formalise the relationship.
These include: Uniting all equestrian clubs in Nigeria under a single umbrella, registration of the Federation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), gaining recognition as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) to facilitate official collaboration with the NSC, submission of a proposal for equestrian sports demonstrations at national events such as the National Sports Festival and the National Youth Games.
The Sports commission also extended warm sporting regards to the Federation, signaling an openness to further engagement as the stipulated requirements are met.
The move is seen as a significant step towards mainstreaming equestrian sports in Nigeria, promoting unity among clubs, and creating pathways for national recognition and development.
