FG Rolls Out Buhari Achievements In Sports

Every May 29, the Nigeria handover date, the government always rolls out their achievements in different sectors.

This year makes it the sixth anniversary of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the government as expected rolled out their achievements in sports in the last six years in office.

The scorecard is contained in a 27-page Buhari administration achievements titled “Sixth Anniversary of Buhari administration, Fact Sheet,” made available to BSN Sports. It reads; “Long overdue renovation of the Lagos and Abuja National Stadiums kicked off in 2020, ahead of concessioning for private
management.

“In 2018, the National Sports Festival held for the first time since 2012. Nigeria national U-17 football team, the Golden Eaglets, won the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the fifth time, in 2015. Their first ever win was 30 years earlier, in 1985, when President Buhari was military Head of State.

“Nigeria’s participation at the 2016 Paralympic Games yielded
her best gold medal result since Nigeria started taking part in the Games in 1992. D’ Tigress, Nigeria’s Female National Basketball Team won
the 2017 FIBA Africa Women’s Championship, the continental
championship Cup, for the first time in 12 years, and earned qualification for its first FIBA Women’s World Cup appearance since 2006.

“In 2018, D’Tigress, Nigeria’s Female National Basketball Team earned its first-ever win at the FIBA Women’s World Cup, and went on to advance to the quarterfinals. The Team finished in 8th place – the best ever performance by an African Team.
“In 2019, D’ Tigress successfully defended its 2017 Afro Basketball Women Championship Title. In 2020, D’ Tigress became the only female African Team to
qualify for participation in the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
Nigeria’s Women’s Football Team, the Super Falcons, won the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in 2016 and
2018.
“In 2018, Nigeria hosted a FIFA Executive Football Summit, one of twelve worldwide. In 2019, the Super Falcons advanced to the group stage of the Women’s World Cup, for the first time in 20 years. In 2019, Nigeria won its first Athletics World Championship Medal in six years.”

Arabinrin Aderonke Bereaved as Father, Engr. S. O. Ogunleye, Passes On at 82

The Executive Director of Fame Foundation and Technical Assistant on Broadcast Media to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, has been thrown into deep mourning following the passing of her beloved father.


Engr. S. O. Ogunleye, a respected community leader, accomplished engineer, and passionate advocate for societal development, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 82 years old.


Late Engr. Ogunleye was widely admired for his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people within his community. An avid Awoist and a man of principle, he dedicated his life to service, growth, and the advancement of his environment, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, leadership, and compassion.


Speaking on the painful loss, his daughter,Arabinrin Aderonke , described her father as her teacher, bestie, mentor, and a loving pillar whose absence has left an irreplaceable void.

“I am deeply pained at this moment. Words cannot fully express the depth of sorrow I feel. My father was not just a parent; he was my teacher and my closest support. While the pain is overwhelming, I remain grateful for the fulfilled life he lived and for his sacrifices in ensuring his children received the best education. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course after consultations with the family.”


The family has requested privacy at this time as they mourn the loss of a man whose life touched many and whose legacy will continue to live on through his values and the lives he impacted.


Late Engr. Ogunleye is survived by his wife, children—among whom is Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, a highly respected journalist renowned for her impactful contributions and dedication to touching lives across all facets of society—grandchildren, and other members of the extended family.
