Finland-Nigeria future cooperation has a brighter prospect-envoy
Mrs Sanna Selin, the new Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, says Nigeria and Finland have a brighter future together through bilateral relations.
The envoy said this during her Finland’s 107 years National Day celebration, which was held on Wednesday night in Abuja.
She said that to promote stronger cooperation, both countries needed to learn from each other to build trust
.
According to Selin, the fact that Nigeria and Finland differ in many ways has not and will not prevent both nations from together finding mutual and beneficial solutions to shared challenges.
“The key is to better understand each other and each others’ needs by working tirelessly together to learn from one another and build trust.
“Nigeria and Finland share many common values. We work closely together in multilateral fora for a better world.
“As an Ambassador of Finland to Nigeria, I see our future brighter together”, she said.
Speaking on the Ukraine-Russian war, she said that the long-term aim for the Finnish Foreign Policy had been to promote peace, security, and sustainable development.
She said that for Finland, it was self-evident that supporting Ukraine is the obligation at the current war.
“My grandparents were the generation fighting for the independence and sovereignty of Finland. I am deeply grateful for their sacrifice.
“Ukraine is fighting, not only for its survival, but also defending the rules-based international order.
“From our own historical experience and fight for independence, we know what Ukraine is going through”, she said.
According to Selin, before independence from the Russian empire, all Finnish men and women gained full political rights to be voted and elected.
She said women used their political influence to demand for better school and healthcare for the Finnish people.
“Since 2018, the World Happiness Report has ranked Finland as the happiest country in the world.
“Relevant factors contributing to happiness seem to be Finland’s social safety net combined with personal freedom and a good work-life balance,’” she said.

Pakistan envoy wants collaboration with Nigeria on beauty raw material strengthened
Retired Maj.-Gen. Sohail Khan, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Nigeria, says the collaboration between his country and Nigeria on raw material for beauty products should be strengthened to enhance investments in the country.
The envoy said this on Wednesday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the ongoing Beauty West Africa (BWA) exhibition in Lagos.
NAN reports that the 7th edition of the beauty show is termed as the biggest of its kind in recent times, and it has more than 300 exhibitors from 52 countries in attendance.
The countries include Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Korea, Egypt, China, India, Europe, the Middle East, and South America among others.
According to Khan, the collaboration is a win win situation where the exchange of goods and services is the bedrock of the relationship of Nigeria and Pakistan.
“Nigeria has got a lot of stuff available in terms of raw materials for the beauty products, hence the need for collaboration. Pakistani investors can come and make investments over here.
“They can establish some small manufacturing units, which in turn both countries can benefit from this kind of joint ventures and joint collaboration, so it has to be a win win situation for both sides.”
The envoy said that the existing cultural similarities between both countries for ages had created the platform for the exchange at the BWA show.
NAN reports that the envoy also met with the representatives of Pakistani companies, NAFDAC, United Bank for Africa, as well as legal practitioners and clearing agents on the ease to do business in Nigeria.
Speaking to NAN, some Pakistani exhibitors lauded the organisers of the exhibition for creating a platform for about 52 countries to showcase their beauty products in Nigeria.
They said that the platform provided opportunities to connect and network with one another.
NAN reports that the event, which is a free-to-attend, also features beauty conferences, seminars with demonstrations, as well as showcase beauty products.
