Gateway Games Day 3: FCT Wins 3 Gold in Ayo, Golf, as Male and Female Teams Advance in Basketball

Team Federal Capital Territory (FCT) continues to shine at the ongoing Gateway Games, clinching three gold medals on Day 3 and advancing in both the male and female basketball events.

FCT athletes claimed two gold medals in the traditional Ayo Olopon game, with victories in both the male singles and female doubles categories during Wednesday’s finals held in Abeokuta. The men’s team defeated Akwa Ibom to secure gold in the singles event, while the women’s doubles team also triumphed over Akwa Ibom to clinch gold.

In golf, FCT added another gold to their tally at the Abeokuta Golf Course, further showcasing their versatility across sporting disciplines. Grace Agbo stood out by outperforming all competitors from the 21 states that registered for the Gross Event.

The winning momentum continued in basketball, as both FCT teams advanced to the next round. The female team dominated their match against Bauchi with a commanding 60–34 victory, while the male team outclassed Enugu 67–57 in a competitive encounter.

It will be recalled that on Day 2 (Tuesday), FCT secured one silver and two bronze medals, all in weightlifting.

FCT’s strong performances across multiple sports have boosted their medal count and reinforced their status as a top contender at the Games.

As of the time of filing this report, FCT has secured a total of seven medals: three gold, three silver, and one bronze.

NVBF President, Engr Nimrod Urges Families to Embrace Healthy Living at HOBA Novelty Sports

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has called on Nigerian families to adopt healthy living habits through regular participation in sporting and fitness activities.

Nimrod made the call on Sunday during the third edition of the Hoba Development Association, Abuja Chapter, novelty sports event held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

He noted that physical activities such as sports are vital to fostering family bonds, community interaction, and overall well-being.

“The rate of health-related incidents such as slumping is increasing, but regular exercise helps improve the health of both parents and children,” he said. “Events like this bring families together, allowing parents and children to interact and know each other better.”

Also speaking, the stand-in Chairman of the Hoba Community, Barrister Nathan Naandeti, highlighted the significance of the annual novelty games, describing them as a unifying platform for members of the community.

“It’s something we do every year to promote unity, togetherness, and fitness among our people. Sports is part of who we are,” he stated.

Men, women, and children from the Hoba community participated in various sporting activities, including volleyball, badminton, football, and aerobics—all aimed at encouraging relaxation, fitness, and bonding among families.
