Gen Maikano Commissions New OSMA Liaison Office, Revives Great Lakes African Military Games in Congo Brazzaville,Congo Kinshasa

. CDS Gen Irabor approves the hosting of African Military Games in Abuja 2024 

Nigeria’s Major General Maikano Abdullahi, President of the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and Vice President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), has commissioned new OSMA Central Liaison Office in Congo Brazzaville and revived the African Military Basketball Championship to be hosted in Republic of Congo at the date to be fixed later.

The games include: Athletics, Archery, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing, Football, Golf, Handball, Judo, Rollers skate, Shooting, Swimming, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Taekwondo, and Wrestling Wrestling.

General Abdullahi who is currently on a working visit to Democratic Republic of Congo and Republic of Congo, both in Central Africa said in an interview with SpyeTV News shortly after his arrival in Democratic Republic of Congo, Major General Abdullahi said the purpose of the visit is to discuss on the forthcoming Great Lakes African Military Games to be hosted by the Armed Forces of Democratic Republic of Congo in 2023.

The Great Lakes countries which are Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia.

General Abdullahi met with the His Excellency OMAR SOULEIMAN, Minister of Defence Dr.Gilbert KABANDA KURHENGA, Chief of Defense Staff Vongo Kinshasa, Army General Célestin MBALA MUNSENSE and Nigerian Ambassadors to DRC in Kinshasa.

He disclosed that Niger Republic in Niamey will host the next General Lucky Eluonye Onyenuchea Irabor the Chief of Defence Staff Nigeria Sahel Games for Peace and Solidarity 2023. 

The countries are: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Republic of Congo.

SpyeTV News reports that Nigeria Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Eluonye Onyenuchea Irabor approved the hosting of African Military Games in Abuja 2024.

CDS U-18 Basketball: TNT Thrash Niger 40-10 as Kaduna Girls Maintain Unbeaten Run

As the curtain gradually draws on the second edition of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Democracy Day U-18 Basketball Tournament, taking place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja, participating teams are intensifying efforts to clinch victory.

The tournament, themed “Encouraging Grassroots Basketball Talents”, aims to identify and nurture young talents, building their capacity to contribute meaningfully to national development.

A total of 16 teams—10 male and 6 female—are battling it out for top honours.

In Day 4 action from the female category, Kaduna State girls extended their unbeaten run by defeating FCT 37-27.

In the opening game of the day, Abuja-based private club TNT Basketball Club dominated their Niger State counterparts with a resounding 40-10 win at the end of the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, Plateau Girls also proved their mettle by edging past Nasarawa with a 31-25 victory.

The CDS Democracy Day Basketball Championship, which kicked off on Saturday, June 14, will run through Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
