Gov Peter Mba Female Football Tournament Set to Debut in Enugu
The inaugural edition of the Governor Peter Mba Girls Football Tournament is scheduled to take place in Enugu in May 2025.
Announcing this from her base in Atlanta, Georgia, Judith Chime, founder of the Judith Chime Foundation and organizer of the tournament, stated that the invitational event aims to support Governor Peter Mba’s efforts in empowering the girl child.
Judith Chime, a former Super Falcons goalkeeper, emphasized that the tournament will provide grassroots female footballers with a platform to showcase their talents and gain recognition. “I was inspired to organize this tournament due to the positive response from the Judith Chime Cup held in December. We realized that grassroots teams lack adequate tournaments, which hampers their development,” Chime explained.
She added that her foundation is committed to organizing at least two female football tournaments annually to enhance grassroots exposure and help young talents secure scholarships in American colleges for further empowerment.
Chime also called on corporate organizations and individuals to collaborate with the government in promoting women’s football across the country.
Judith Chime was a member of Nigeria’s 1999 Super Falcons team that reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States.
