Group Publishes List of Bureau De Change Operators; Absolves Senate
…Passes Vote Of Confidence On CBN
The Federation of Freelance Journalists in Nigeria (FEFJIN) has reacted to media reports indicating that some Senators were rewarded with Bureau De Change licence by the nation’s apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the executive secretary of the federation Mr. Joseph Uyeh hinted that investigations by the organisation prove on the contrary.
“Considering the premium position of the apex bank and the central role it plays in the socio economic stability of the country, we undertook an independent investigation into the allegations against the bank and the Senators”.
The group explained that her findings revealed that no Senator in the 9th assembly ever indicated interest for any such licence and could not have been gifted what they did not show interested in after all.
“After exhaustive findings on the comprehensive list of Bureau De Change operators who got duly licenced by the CBN, it is only fair that we set the records straight to Nigerians.
“We wish to appeal to all and sundry that the sensitive role the CBN plays in the socio economic trajectory of every citizen should be supported by at least giving them the moral support they need”, the group said.
Mr. Uye further noted that it makes no sense for media organisation and stakeholders to promote negative allegations against the apex bank without adequate censorship.
“We are going to publish the list of those Bureau De Change Operators who actually applied and got their licenses processed”, the group added.
Also, the group absolved the Senate of the allegations that its members were been bribed, maintained that such grave allegations that are capable of undermining our institutions without proof should be discouraged.
Responding, the Patron, Federation of Freelance Journalists ,Dr Oliver Bula moved for a vote of confidence on the CBN management and advised the management to remain focused on their constitutional mandate.
