Gymnastics Federation President Commends NSC DG for Peaceful Resolution, Apologies for Miscommunication
Joel Ajayi
Gymnastics Federation President Kelvin Erhunmwunse has commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) leadership, particularly Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade, for resolving the internal discord within the Nigerian gymnastics community, praising his leadership prowess and crisis management techniques.
The NSC had convened a meeting with key stakeholders of the Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria (GFN) in Abuja on October 15, 2025, where consensus was reached to restore unity and progress in the sport.
Erhunmwunse emphasized the importance of effective communication between sports federations, the National Olympic Committee (NOC), and NSC leadership. “My earlier concerns against the DG’s position was driven by lack of communication and misinformation, but I thank the DG, NOC, and other stakeholders for taking their time to dispassionately look at the facts on the ground before resolving the issue by accommodating all concerned for the progress of sports in Nigeria.”
The GFN president praised the NSC, NOC, and Electoral Committee for handling the impasse professionally. He expressed gratitude to Olopade for his leadership in bringing peace and stability to the GFN. “I thank the NSC, NOC, Electoral Committee, and all stakeholders for their support. I appeal to the leadership of NOC and NSC to apply the same fairness with which the GFN issue was resolved in handling the Judo Federation impasse, and urge that we must, however, remain vigilant of some fifth columnists who are determined to undermine the good policies of the present administration under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”He said.
Erhunmwunse also thanked Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and Hon. Bukola Olopade for their leadership and administrative expertise, particularly in hosting the international judges and coaches course of gymnastics earlier in the year.
