Hon Famous Daunemigha targets South South as volleyball
Hon Famous Daunemigha has restated his commitment to the development of volleyball in the South South Region of Nigeria on Friday.
Hon Daunemigha told newsmen that he will sustain investment in volleyball to restore the region lost glory and place it as a volleyball hub in Nigeria.
He said, “Development of the volleyball is one of the major thematic pillars in the South South Region. As we speak, I have committed huge financial resources not only in the youths but also in volleyball in order to reposition and strengthen the game.
“We are committed to restoring the region’s lost glory in volleyball. Our determination to make the South South participate in the top league in the country. As far as I am concerned, it is a mission that I have resolved to actualise.”
Daunemigha said more grassroots program for indoor and beach volleyball event will be organized yearly in order to meaningful engage the youths in the region
said through government’s right policies in the sports sector and private sector support, the state would generate employment for its youths and create sustainable livelihoods for the people.
He concluded that the fortunes of volleyball in the region is dwindling because of volleyball virtually don’t exist again in some schools, poor facilities and infrastructure as well as lack of interest from individuals.
He promised to continue to invest in sports and human development to better the lives of children and athletes in the South South.

NHF President Nkom, Prof. Agbo Attend 50th FIH Congress in Doha

President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), Engineer Simon Nkom, and NHF Board Member, Professor Ediga Agbo, are representing Nigeria at the landmark 50th Congress of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Doha, Qatar.
The congress brings together hockey leaders and administrators from across the world to deliberate on governance, policy direction and strategies for the future development of the sport.
Their participation provides Nigeria with an opportunity to engage with international stakeholders, exchange ideas and explore initiatives that can strengthen the growth and administration of hockey in the country.
Speaking on the significance of the gathering, Nkom said, “Our participation in this historic congress is an opportunity to learn from global best practices, build strategic relationships and identify initiatives that can contribute to the sustainable development of hockey in Nigeria.”
Agbo also emphasised the importance of translating international engagements into practical progress at home, saying, “The ultimate goal is to ensure that the knowledge and opportunities gained from this congress contribute meaningfully to the development of hockey in Nigeria, particularly in strengthening our structures and creating more opportunities for growth.”
The 50th FIH Congress marks a significant milestone for the international governing body, providing a platform for discussions and decisions that will shape the future of hockey globally.
For Nigeria, the engagement underscores the importance of international collaboration in advancing the sport, strengthening its administration and creating a sustainable pathway for hockey development across the country.
