Hon. Kabiru Amadu Leads Healthy Living Campaign at Bauchi Road Walk
Joel Ajayi
Prominent political leaders and stakeholders converged in Bauchi State on Saturday, December 13, for the 7th edition of the Annual Grand Road Walk, an event aimed at promoting physical fitness, social inclusion and national unity.
The event was attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who was represented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu; Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed; distinguished senators; the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly; members of the National and State Assemblies; senior civil servants; and corporate partners, including the Chairman of AYM Shafa Energy.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kabiru Amadu described the annual road walk as a growing national platform for health awareness and social cohesion.
He praised Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, for his leadership and commitment to policies that prioritise the health and welfare of citizens.
“Governor Bala Mohammed’s dedication to health, infrastructure and inclusive governance is evident in the steady progress being recorded across Bauchi State,” Amadu said. “We are all beneficiaries of his vision for a healthier and more inclusive society.”
He also commended the Chairman of the Association of Physical Fitness Clubs, Bauchi State chapter, Hon. Aminu Garu, for the successful organisation of the event, noting that his leadership has strengthened the association and expanded its impact.
The Speaker further acknowledged the role of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, led by its Speaker, Alhaji Auwal Jatau, emphasising the importance of collaboration between federal and state legislatures in delivering people-centred policies.
According to Amadu, the Grand Road Walk goes beyond physical exercise, serving as a reminder of the need for Nigerians to adopt healthier lifestyles amid rising cases of preventable diseases linked to inactivity.
He highlighted the strong participation of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, describing their involvement as a powerful statement on inclusion and equal opportunity.
“This walk reminds us that national development must be inclusive,” he said. “Every step we take should move us closer to a society where opportunities are available to all Nigerians, regardless of physical ability.”
Amadu also lauded the participation of security agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force Special Taskforce and the Police Community Relations Committee, as well as the support of private sector partners such as AYM Shafa Energy, noting that sustainable progress depends on collaboration across sectors.
He called on government institutions, corporate organisations, civil society groups and the media to continue promoting health awareness, physical fitness and inclusive policies that make sports accessible to all Nigerians, particularly in underserved communities.
The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to the organisers, sponsors and participants for their contributions to promoting public health and community engagement across the country.

Unity Is Key To Reviving Nigerian Basketball-Igoche Mark
Joel Ajayi
Prominent basketball promoter and initiator of the Mark”D” Championship, Mr. Igoche Mark, has emphasized the urgent need for unity among Nigerian basketball stakeholders, urging them to set aside personal agendas for the growth of the sport.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Global Sports Program on Sunday, Mark stressed that internal conflicts and lack of cohesion are major obstacles hindering basketball’s progress in the country. “Currently, one of our biggest problems is internal fighting, lack of unity.
A house divided against itself cannot stand. Nigeria basketball stakeholders need to come together and put aside personal agendas,” he said.
Mark, who is determined to spearhead efforts to unite basketball stakeholders, highlighted the common goal that should bind everyone involved in the sport. “No doubt, we all have something in common, which is passion for basketball, irrespective of our differences.
This is me saying, let’s put aside all our differences and come together in one voice in order to advance the sport. We have a whole lot more to contribute; we need to put down a structure to guide, and we need to focus on development.
There is a need to close that disparity between our prowess on the international scene and that of our domestic league,” he stated.
Calling for immediate action, Mark promised to lead efforts to bring stakeholders to the table. “Going forward, we need to talk, we need to start mending fences for basketball to make progress,” he concluded.
Other panelists on the show, including Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Board Member and Olympian Olumide Oyedeji, and basketball promoter Ugo Udueze, echoed Mark’s sentiments, agreeing that a united front is essential for the advancement of Nigerian basketball.
The consensus among the speakers underscores a growing recognition that without unity and collaboration, Nigerian basketball will struggle to realize its full potential, both domestically and on the international stage.
