House Committee on Sports Chairman, Hon Amadu Praises NIS Contribution to Sports Development, Promises Green Chamber Support

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has applauded the National Institute for Sports’s contribution that is bringing more development for Sports sector in the country.

To this end, Lawmaker representing good people of Gusau/Tsafe Federal constituency in the House of Representatives  Pledged that House Committee will leave no stone unturned to give needed support to institution that will further bring more growth to sports industry in the country.

He also, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  for increasing budgetary Allocations to the Institute.

Honourable Amadu who  was the special Guest  of Honour at the 50th Anniversary Celebration/9th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute for Sports, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, yesterday, Wednesday 29th, Jan. 2025 gave this commendation.

In his  keynote address, Hon Kabiru Amadu  felicitates with the institute and pledged further legislative Support to the Institution.
He highlighted the commitment of the Committee to elevate the Institute to National University of Sports and appreciated President Ahmed Tinubu for increasing budgetary Allocations to the Institute.

Team Nigeria Jets to Cairo for 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships

Excitement is high as Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting contingent departed Nigeria on Tuesday, October 7, for the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships set to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from October 9 to 18, 2025. 


The milestone event marks the first-ever World Championships to be hosted on African soil, symbolizing a new era for the sport on the continent.


The first batch of Team Nigeria athletes left the country on Tuesday amid cheers and well-wishes from officials, fans, and supporters.

The second batch of the contingent is scheduled to depart tomorrow, October 8, from Lagos, completing the full team that will represent the nation at this landmark competition.


Speaking ahead of the departure, officials expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to uphold Nigeria’s longstanding reputation as a force to be reckoned with, in global para powerlifting.


The National Sports Commission (NSC) reaffirmed its full support for the athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports.
