Joel Ajayi
A group of former Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly across the three Senatorial Districts on Wednesday threw their weight behind the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka in the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi state come November 11th, 2023.
Speaking at the World Press Conference in Abuja the Representative of the Former House of Assembly Members Hon. Simon Atadoga proclaimed the adoption in support for Alhaji Ajaka the state’s SDP governorship candidate.
He noted that Bello’s APC-led regime in the state brought a whole lot of sorrow, killings, pains, hunger, and starvation across the land leaving the people crying for divine intervention, emancipation, and change and with the coming of the kindhearted and vibrant man like Alhaji Ajaka, if elected, the unpleasant memories will be completely erased.
According to him, the year was 2016 when the demise of the political giant, Prince Abubakar Audu, brought in calamity upon the state, by the enthronement of Governor Yahaya Bello, almost eight years ago.
“Bello’s regime is a regime of sorrow, killings, pains, hunger, and starvation across the land leaving the people crying for divine intervention, emancipation, and change.
“In the ensuing confusion and palpable fears thrown upon the state and the people, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka emerged like the Biblical David.
“With the courage of a lion and the resolve of a heart to salvage his people, he is undaunted and ever-focused on the future of our dear Kogi State. This is the resolve we all share by transforming the idea into a movement “MURI MOVEMENT.”
“This movement is an idea whose time has come. It is unstoppable, leading to Luggard House.
The former Kogi State House of Assembly members from the three senatorial districts of the state have resolved and unequivocally taken a stand with the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Hon. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka.
“Our decision to identify with your aspiration and candidature is informed by several obvious facts.
“We unanimously believe that you have the capacity, tenacity, and courage to salvage the state from maladministration and misrule of the current regime and re-position the state to its envious pride of place among the comity of other states in the Federation.
Speaking Further, Hon. Ataoga said that the SDP candidate is informed to reposition the state. “We believe in your capacity to right the wrongs done to the state and the people these past eight years by providing pro-people administration and government and wiping away the flowing tears from the eyes of the majority of Kogites.
“We believe you have the capacity to redeem the state and the people from squalor and make us proud again.
“These and many more, we believe can be achieved by engaging in noble objectives giving your experience and track records of excellence.
“The committee of former House of Assembly members from across the three senatorial districts of the state have not only endorsed your candidature but have resolved to take the task, including the campaign to our various constituents across the state to ensure landslide victory. And we are confident our mission shall be accomplished with songs of victory.
“The people of Kogi state are yearning for your coming. That has been loudly demonstrated in their reception and acceptance of your candidacy. All we are waiting for is the day of election come 11th November 2023 to translate these warm acceptances through the ballot box. And the day shall come with Jubilations.
“We implore you to remain dogged like you have ever been. The storm shall be over. We are proud of your resilience and tenacity. You have by so doing exemplified a rare leadership quality and inspired many for which we are glad to be a part
“Looking back, we assure you we are with you and shall remain with you until your victory- our victory is announced. May the good Lord see us through in the remaining days ahead?” He assured.

Farmer/herder clashes: Lawmaker seeks implementation of extant laws on ranching

A member of House of Representatives, Nnamdi Ezechi, has advocated for strict implementation of extant laws prohibiting open grazing in the states.
Ezechi stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja while reacting to the recent killing of a member of a vigilance group in his constituency, Mr Ogonegbu Chukwunomnazu.
The lawmaker, representing Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West and Ukwuani in the lower legislative chamber, while condemning the killing, reiterated the imperatives of implementing extant laws on open grazing by states.
He urged the Inspector-General of Police to help fish out the killers of his constituent and bring them to justice.
“I call on the I-GP to rise up to the occasion by apprehending those behind the killing of the vigilante member.
“I also expect the police and other security agencies to help implement laws by various states, including Delta, that prohibit open grazing and provide for cattle ranching,” he said.
According to him, it is wrong for people to cause disadvantage to others with their own businesses.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmaker had earlier raised the matter through a motion of urgent national importance on the floor of the house.
NAN also reports that the Speaker, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, had also called on the inspector-general of police and other security agencies to swing into action on the matter.
