National Sports Festival: Lifters Battle For Medals As Weightlifting Events Begin Today

Orchid Hotel by DBS Junction, Asaba will be the venue as the weightlifting events begin today at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival, NSF in Asaba, Delta State.

According to the schedules released by the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF on Sunday after their technical meeting, events will commence by 9am on Monday, December 5, 2022 with 45kg women category.

There will be five categories of events to be competed for in Game Day One which would include 45kg women, 55kg men Group B, 61kg men Group B as well as 55kg men Group A and 61kg men Group A

The events will begin with 45kg women category with the athletes being weighed-in between 7:30 and 8:30am before hostilities begin by 9:30am.

55Kg Men Group B category will commence with weigh-in 10:30 to 11:30am before competition starts by 12:30pm.

Competition in the 61kg Men Group B will start by 3:30pm after the athletes have been weighed-in between 1:30 and 2:30pm

55Kg Men Group A and 61Kg Men Group A will round off Game Day One in weightlifting by 6:30pm. The athletes will be weighed-in between 4:30

Nigeria’s foremost Sports Company, Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML) has announced the second edition of the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, set to light up Nigeria’s capital city on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

With the theme “Steady Strides,” this year’s race captures the measured rhythm and determined pace that define world-class long-distance running, a reflection of the steady progress and ambitious vision shaping the marathon’s evolution into a global platinum-labelled event.

In a historic milestone for Nigerian sports, the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon has been officially awarded the prestigious World Athletics Label for its second edition, a distinction achieved in record time. This remarkable feat makes it the first marathon globally to earn the label so swiftly, underscoring both the organizational excellence of NSML and the dynamic rise of PremiumTrust Bank, currently celebrated as Nigeria’s fastest-growing commercial bank.

The 2025 edition is expected to attract elite international athletes, top local runners, and marathon enthusiasts from around the world, alongside officials from World Athletics who will oversee the competition.
