Nigeria Squash Federation targets Secondary Schools-Boye Oyerinde

The President of Nigeria Squash Federation, Boye Oyerinde revealed that member of the current board will embark on massive grassroots development of squash in various secondary schools in Nigeria.


Oyerinde told said programs will be built for female players in order to make the girl child participate in the game of squash.


He said the current board members are determined to establish and adopt the existence of underage competitions in the country.


Oyerinde revealed that during his first stint as President of Nigeria Squash Federation, the board donated kits to all 37 states including four clubs after conducting training programs for the coaches.


He said, “One of our key areas in the current board is to embark on massive grassroots development in various secondary schools in the country. This will be made possible by the collaboration of the board members in the geopolitical zones and their various ministry of Education.


“We hope to build more programs for our female players as we have very few female players compared to the men. To support our grassroot development program, we got and distributed kits to all 37 states of the federation and 4 clubs after conducting training programs for the coaches.”


The sports administrator said the board will encourage the development and establishment categories to be adopted in the country starting from U13, U16 & U19 as Juniors and then the seniors.


He recalled that three training programs were organised for Nigeria coaches with the last one as World Squash Federation Level 1 which held last August.


He said, “In the last four years, the federation organised training programs for our coaches and officials. We have organised 3 training programs for our coaches with the last one as World Squash Federation Level 1 which held last August.


“The Federation also organised 7 Professional Squash Association Tournaments in 2019 which has never been done before. We organised 7 Professional Squash Association Tournaments in 2019 which has never been done before.

NIS Train Adamawa coaches, administrators

The National Institute for sports Lagos and the Adamawa State Government are organizing a 5- day capacity training workshop for coaches, sports Administrators, Games Masters and physical and Health Educator Teachers in Adamawa State.


The program which was declared opened on Tuesday April 16th 2024 by the Executive Governor of Adamawa state Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who was represented by the Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta.


The opening day had more than 200 participants from all parts of the state.


Declaring the event opened Professor Farauta said ” We hope Adamawa state will not only benefit from this training,it will ultimately lead to produce global stars.

The Governor will support the cause of reducing vices through sports. It is taking place before the Commencement of the Governor’s Cup in Adamawa state. We hope the experience from this seminar will be applied in our grassroot sports Development.

We commend the Director-General of the National Institute for sports Professor Olawale Moronkola, the Registrar and all the resource persons for deeing it fit to hold this seminar in Adamawa state.

The program is in line with the vision of his Excellence Rt Honourable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to discover talents and empower the youths through sports.

I therefore urge all participants to make the best use of the opportunity of this seminar to improve themselves and positively impact sports development in our state.


Speaking at the event, Director-General National Institute for sports Professor Olawale Moronkola affirmed ” Sports is an activity accompanied with physical exertion that demands skills involving individuals as well as other people during performance.

Sports is now being used to foster or promote unity as well as instruments for diplomacy, fostering skills and knowledge for development, addressing youth restiveness, public health and peace keeping.
