Nigeria To Host 2021 Women’s AFCON Next Month

The nods have been given to the most populous nation in the black race Nigeria to host the U-18 Women’s African Cup of Nations come March, 1st to 9th, 2021.
The Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) and the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) on Monday granted Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s (NVBF) request to host the tournament in the federal capital Territory.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Media and Publicity of the Federation, Kehinde Lamidi made available to THE GLEAMER NEWS which reads in parts, “The world volleyball governing body, FIVB and the continental confederation, CAVB have yielded to the request of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation on the new date to host U-18 female Nations cup in Abuja,Nigeria
“The federation stated that FIVB and CAVB have approved 1st and 9th of March, 2021 for the hosting of the U-18 female Nations cup by Nigeria.
The information added that six countries namely : Cameroun, Central Africa Republic, Congo RDC, Egypt, Tunisia and the host Nigeria have confirmed their participation in the championship.
The arrival of the participating countries is March 1, technical meeting is scheduled for the 2nd of March, while the competition days are between 3rd and 8th of March. All the visiting teams are expected to depart for their countries on 9th.
The tournament will be used to qualify Africa’s representative to the 2021 FIVB World championship and is open to players who are under the 18 year old.
Reacting, the president of the Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod who was visibly happy with the development appreciated FIVB and CAVB for the gesture lauding the representative of the international body on the board and current executive member of the world and continental bodies, Habu Gumel for his efforts in making it a reality.
Meanwhile, Engineer Musa Nimrod however, enjoined the technical Chairman of the federation to downsize number of players in kaduna camp to a required number.
It will be remembered that about 32 junior female players were invited to camp in Kaduna on the 29th of january, 2021

Cricket: Nigeria To Host ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Cricket Federation , NCF, says it is ready to host five other nations for the International Cricket Council ,ICC, Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.
The tournament is billed for Lagos, with the matches to be held at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square ,TBS, and the University of Lagos ,UniLag, from March 26 to April 6.
Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, said in a statement on Sunday, that the tournament is about celebrating the growth of the game on the continent.
“Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos.
“Our nation is known for its warm hospitality and fascinating cricketing potential, and we are committed to making this qualifier a memorable experience for all.
“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players”, Akpata noted.
However, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone will join Nigeria to jostle for the continent’s sole ticket to the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will be hoping to secure the ticket, having achieved same feat in 2019 and competing at the World Cup in South Africa 2020
