The African business community in Yiwu, Zhejiang province of China has been advised to shun the idea of collaborating with evil persons in exporting fake, expired, and sub-standard goods and products from China to Africa.
This was contained in a release by Nigeria’s Consulate Office in Shanghai, China.
The Consul General of Nigeria’s Consulate office in Shanghai, Chimezie Okeoma Ogu, advised in his remark as a guest of honor during the end-of-the-year ceremony by the African community in Yiwu.
The Nigeria Consul General stated that such acts contribute to the destruction of African markets and economy, as well as jeopardize the life and health of African people.
Furthermore, Ogu encouraged the African community in Yiwu to learn and adopt the best practices and experiences in their host city in China and to ensure that quality and best products are exported to their African countries, thereby contributing to developing the respective economy.
The Consul General also encourages them to exhibit exemplary character in Australia be good ambassadors in their host city and as representatives of African cultures. According to Mr . Ogu, they are the mirror that reflects the quality and the level of African human development in their various places of business in China.
He also tasked Africans in Yiwu China to live harmoniously in the city as a wish for well and success in 2024.
The occasion offered an opportunity for the Nigerian representatives in Shanghai to convince a meeting of Nigerians doing business in Yiwu on a sideline of the event.
During the meeting, the envoy further frowned on the issue of exporting fake and substandard goods and products from the host city to Nigeria. According to him, the evil practice is wicked and a disservice to God and humanity.
In this same vein, Ogu has called upon the government of the People’s Republic of China to reconsider the high tariff imposed on agricultural export products to China.
He made this call during the global digital expo conference in Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province.
This was in response to the question of the inability of Nigeria to export and trade agricultural produce from Nigeria to China.
Ogu stated that Nigeria is disadvantaged because the Chinese authority classifies Nigeria as a developed economy and imposes more than two-digit taxation on goods and products from the country.
He canvassed that this regime of tariff should be revisited by the Chinese central government in Beijing to allow Nigerian businessmen and their Chinese partners to participate in the new Chinese global digital economic promotion.

A non-governmental organization, Fridays For Future Nigeria (FFFN), and Climate Live Nigeriain collaboration with the Ogale and Bille communities in the Niger Delta, will stage a peaceful protest against Shell Petroleum on Thursday.
The demonstration is aims to demand compensation and remediation for the communities affected by oil spills and environmental damage.
The groups strongly condemn Shell’s disregard for human and environmental rights in the region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the National Coordinator and Country Representative of Fridays For Future Nigeria and Climate Live Nigeria, Mr. Kingsley Odogwu, announced that FFFN and Climate Live Nigeria would hold a peaceful demonstration in Lagos on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
The protest coincides with the start of Shell’s trial at the London High Court.
According to the statement, the demonstration seeks to raise awareness about Shell’s environmental and human rights violations in the Niger Delta and pressure the company to take responsibility for its actions by providing adequate compensation and remediation.
“The people of the Niger Delta have an inherent right to a clean and healthy environment—a right that Shell has systematically violated,” Odogwu said. “We urge the Nigerian government and the international community to support the Ogale and Bille communities in their quest for justice and to hold Shell accountable for its environmental destruction.”
“For decades, the Niger Delta has suffered from severe environmental degradation due to oil spills, gas flaring, and other harmful practices by Shell and other oil companies. The region’s ecosystem has been devastated, endangering the health and livelihoods of its inhabitants.
“The affected communities demand that Shell fulfill its legal obligations by cleaning up pollution to international standards and providing adequate compensation for the destruction of their farmland, fisheries, and overall way of life.
“Despite Shell’s acknowledgment of its responsibility, meaningful action has yet to be taken,” the statement added.
However, FFFN and Climate Live Nigeria are calling on all concerned citizens to join the demonstration and demand justice for the people of the Niger Delta.
