Nigeria’s diplomat to Côte d’Ivoire, a Former protocol officer of Nigeria Football Federation NFF and Member of Nigeria premier league Assessor, Robert Akpenpuum on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and newly elected President of WAFU Zone B, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, at his office in Abidjan.

Sir Akpenpuum accompanied by members of his diplomatic staff, commended Gusau on his recent election and praised his contributions to the development of football in West Africa. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between Nigeria’s diplomatic mission and the regional football body.

In a major milestone for West African football, Alhaji Gusau officially assumed office as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B on Tuesday.

The ceremonial handover took place at the WAFU headquarters in Cocody Rivera 4, Abidjan, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the sub-regional body.

Gusau’s rise to the presidency follows the elevation of Ghana Football Association President, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, to the CAF Executive Committee during its congress in Egypt on March 12, 2025. Okraku was subsequently appointed as CAF’s second Vice President, paving the way for Gusau to step into the WAFU leadership role.

The ceremony drew dignitaries and representatives from WAFU Zone B member associations, who gathered to witness the formal transition and express their hopes for the region’s football future.

Under Gusau’s leadership, WAFU Zone B is expected to witness renewed emphasis on football infrastructure, enhanced grassroots development, and deeper collaboration among member nations.

With his wealth of experience and vision, stakeholders across the region are optimistic about Gusau’s capacity to elevate the standard of football in West Africa.
