NOC Women Commission To Conclude 2026 Programme With Girl-Child, Journalists’ Seminar
Joel Ajayi
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Women Commission will conclude its 2026 annual programme with activities marking the International Day of the Girl Child and an inclusive leadership seminar for journalists.
The event, themed “Her Voice, Her Future: Investing in Girls Through Sports and Education,” will bring together schoolgirls, young female athletes, coaches and stakeholders in sports, education and advocacy.
The Commission will host over 100 adolescent girls from secondary schools across Lagos State on October 10 at the OlympAfrica Centre, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child.
The NOC will round off its 2026 calendar with its Annual Women in Sports Leadership Training/Seminar for journalists, scheduled for October 22 to 24 in Abuja.
The commission had outlined three major programmes for 2026 as part of its efforts to promote the development, participation and welfare of girls and women in sports.
The first programme, the Award for Pioneer Female Athletes (1965-1980), was successfully held on June 30, 2026, to honour female athletes who laid the foundation for women’s sports in Nigeria.
NOC President, Engineer Habu Gumel commended the Women Commission for the initiative.
He said the investment in girls’ education and sports would give them the opportunity to find their voice, lead and shape their future.
The day-long programme will feature talks by women leaders in education, sports and digital technology, mentorship sessions, sports activities and the launch of the “Her Voice” pledge.
The seminar, which was previously organised for female coaches, administrators and technical officials, has been opened to journalists of all genders this year.
The seminar will focus on modern sports reporting, leadership, ethical and gender-sensitive journalism, as well as strategies to improve the visibility of girls and women in sports.
The NOC Women Commission said it remains committed to creating equal opportunities and promoting the welfare and development of girls and women in Nigerian sports.

15 Days To AACT 2026: Deshi Assures Golfers Of A Special Experience At IBB
As the countdown to the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) continues, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja, Peter Deshi, has highlighted the readiness of the course and the improved facilities awaiting participating golfers and visitors.
Deshi says the preparations for the continental women’s golf championship reflect efforts to provide a suitable playing environment for the competing countries while showcasing the club’s distinctive character and renewed facilities.
The IBB International Golf & Country Club has undergone renovation and improvement work ahead of the tournament, following an extended period of closure to golf. The upgrades are aimed at restoring the venue and preparing it to host a championship that will bring together women golfers from across Africa.
For Deshi, hosting AACT 2026 is an opportunity to present the club in a new light, allowing players and visitors to experience an improved course and facilities while enjoying the atmosphere of one of Nigeria’s prominent golfing venues.
Located in the nation’s capital, the club has previously hosted the All Africa Challenge Trophy, including the 2010 edition. Its selection as the venue for the 2026 championship further places it at the centre of Nigeria’s preparations to welcome the continent once again.
Beyond the competition, the championship is expected to showcase Abuja’s hospitality and tourism potential, with players, officials and other visitors coming together for a week of sporting action and cultural exchange.
Nigeria will host the All Africa Challenge Trophy for the third time, following the 1996 edition at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos and the 2010 championship at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja.
The 2026 tournament is scheduled for November 2 to 7 at the Abuja venue.
As preparations enter the final stretch, the focus remains on delivering a championship that celebrates women’s golf, promotes African connections and gives visitors an opportunity to experience Nigeria’s hospitality.
