The Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation (NSF) has launched a new chapter of reform and strategic development following its inaugural board meeting in Abuja, pledging to revitalize shooting sports nationwide, strengthen grassroots participation, and raise Nigeria’s profile on the continental and global stage.

The historic session was chaired by NSF President Commodore Mohammed Shettima, with First Vice President Commodore Rahinatu Garba, Second Vice President Abubakar Sadiq, North West Representative H. Abubakar, sponsor Prince Supo Olowu, Institutional Representative Sheed Yusuf, and Secretary-General Mrs. Oyindolapo Tinuoso in attendance. Other board members joined via virtual platforms.

At the meeting, the board approved a series of key reform measures, including the implementation of a forensic audit, a comprehensive review of the federation’s constitution, and a formal handover from the former President, Navy Captain Bamidele Olatunji Ayoade, to ensure smooth administrative continuity.

“The forensic audit will give us a clear understanding of the Federation’s financial transactions, assets, and liabilities, while addressing any gaps inherited from previous administrations,” Commodore Shettima explained.

The board also highlighted the urgent need for a constitutional review to modernize governance, enhance operational efficiency, and safeguard athlete welfare.

“A constitution review is long overdue,” a board member stated. “We must establish clear standards for accountability and professionalism to ensure the Federation thrives sustainably.”

In addition, the NSF directed that all official documents, equipment, and assets be formally handed over to the new leadership to ensure continuity and effective management.

Reaffirming the Federation’s vision, Shettima pledged a nationwide revitalization of shooting sports, emphasizing grassroots development and Nigeria’s growing presence in international competitions.

“Our focus is on rebuilding trust, fostering integrity, and promoting performance,” he affirmed. “With accountability and collective responsibility, we will reposition shooting sports in Nigeria for greater achievements.”

The President also stressed proper management of sensitive equipment, particularly firearms, highlighting strict compliance with safety and security protocols.

As part of its immediate agenda, the NSF will commence the forensic audit and inaugurate a Constitutional Review Committee, aligning the Federation’s operations with modern governance standards under the oversight of the National Sports Commission.

“With unity, transparency, and hard work, we will restore the Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation to a position of pride, both nationally and internationally,” Shettima concluded.
