The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, has unveiled the Federal Government’s ambitious One-Government Initiative aimed at creating over four million jobs through strategic collaboration between the tourism and education sectors.

Musawa stated this on Monday while declaring open the 9th National Tourism Transportation Summit and Expo (NTTSUMMIT 2026) in Abuja, describing the initiative as a major step towards equipping Nigerian youths with industry-relevant skills that will drive economic growth and boost employment.

According to the minister, the partnership between the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy and the Federal Ministry of Education will overhaul Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system to meet the manpower needs of the tourism and creative industries.

She stated that the initiative is projected to generate about 4.08 million jobs, comprising 2.58 million opportunities in the creative industry and 1.5 million jobs in tourism and hospitality.
Musawa said that the One-Government strategy is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment by transitioning from generic vocational training to specialised skills development in areas such as creative media, fashion, leather works, live events, hospitality services and other high-demand sectors.

She commended the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN), led by its National President, Chief Abiodun Odusanwo, for consistently providing a platform that brings together stakeholders in the tourism, transportation and hospitality industries to develop strategies for sustainable sectoral growth.

Earlier, Chief Odusanwo, who also chairs the Inter-Ministerial Organising Committee for the summit, said this year’s event was focused on implementing presidential directives aimed at strengthening collaboration between the tourism and transportation sectors while supporting the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s TVET programme under the One-Government policy.

The summit also featured goodwill messages from key stakeholders across government and the private sector.

Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Dr. Olayiwola Awakan, said that, the agency’s commitment to sustainable tourism development through stronger partnerships with stakeholders.

While President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Dr. Aliyu Badaki, called for urgent legislative reforms, urging the review and re-enactment of the NTDA and NIHOTOUR Acts to eliminate regulatory conflicts that discourage investment in the tourism sector.

Representing the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Omiki Pledges the commission’s commitment to ensuring safe and efficient road transportation, stressing that road safety remains a critical enabler of national development and tourism growth.

Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Kayode Opeifa, highlighted the importance of modern rail infrastructure in promoting tourism mobility, while advocating increased investment in the railway sector and support for local engineering capacity.

Also speaking, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Mr. Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, represented by Assistant Controller-General Arogundade Kolawole, emphasised that safety remains the foundation of a thriving tourism and transportation industry, noting that secure destinations inspire investor confidence, attract tourists and promote sustainable economic development.

Organised by the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN), the National Tourism Transportation Summit and Expo continues to serve as a leading platform for fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, while promoting the integration of tourism and transportation as key drivers of Nigeria’s economic diversification and national development.

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Honorable Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has called on Nigerians to use the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary to renew their faith in Nigeria, strengthen national unity and recommit themselves to building a more inclusive and prosperous country.

In her 66th Independence Day message, Hon. Omidiran described October 1 as more than a celebration of freedom, saying the anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, acknowledge its progress and challenges, and renew the collective determination to build a nation where every citizen has a sense of belonging.

According to the FCC Executive Chairman, the Federal Character Principle remains particularly important to the quest for national cohesion because equitable representation promotes a sense of ownership and confidence in the Nigerian project.

“Nigeria is a nation of great diversity and
enormous potential. Our responsibility is to ensure that this diversity becomes a bridge that connects us rather than a barrier that separates us. Every Nigerian deserves to feel that he or she belongs to this country and has a role to play in its development,” Omidiran said.

The FCC boss called on government institutions at all levels to remain committed to fairness, equity, accountability and inclusive governance, while urging citizens to support efforts aimed at strengthening national institutions and promoting peaceful coexistence.

“We must not lose faith in Nigeria. The challenges before us are real, but so are the opportunities and the enormous human and natural resources available to us. Every citizen has a responsibility to contribute his or her own quota to building the Nigeria we desire,” she stated.

The FCC Executive Chairman also urged young Nigerians to remain committed to acquiring knowledge and skills, entrepreneurship, innovation, sports and other productive ventures, describing the youth as critical stakeholders in the country’s future.

“As we celebrate 66 years of independence, let us remember that the Nigeria we want cannot be built by government alone. It requires the commitment of all of us – leaders and citizens, young and old, from every part of the federation. Together, we can build a Nigeria where justice, fairness, opportunity and peace are available to all,” she said.

Omidiran reaffirmed the FCC’s commitment to the effective discharge of its constitutional mandate and to supporting efforts that promote equitable representation and inclusive national development across the federation.

The former lawmaker wished Nigerians at home and abroad a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary, praying for continued peace, stability, prosperity and progress for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Our differences should never be greater than our common identity as Nigerians. Let us continue to choose unity over division, service over self-interest and hope over despair. The Nigeria of our dreams is possible if we all play our part,” Omidiran said.

“On behalf of the Federal Character Commission, I congratulate all Nigerians on this 66th Independence Anniversary. May this occasion renew our patriotism, strengthen our unity and inspire us to work together for a stronger, more equitable and prosperous Nigeria. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she added.
