In its effort to ensure the security of all Prospective Corps members in the country, the National Youth Service Corps NYSC is taking the campaign against unauthorized and night journeys to motor parks, transport companies, and other relevant stakeholders.

NYSC’s Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed stated this on Thursday in Abuja during the 2023 Batch ‘C’ pre-mobilization workshop with the theme, “Enhancing The Orientation Course As a Veritable Tool For Leadership Development And Economic Empowerment.”

The workshop was held to review the conduct of the previous Orientation Exercises with a view to strategizing for enhanced performance.

According to him, despite the modest achievements recorded in recent times, we must continue to strive for Improvement in line with global best practices.

“The security of Corps Members remains a matter of priority in all aspects of our operation, especially during the Orientation Course.

“Unauthorized Journey by Corps Members is not allowed.

“This is a recurring problem that has become a nightmare for the Scheme.

“Consequently, avoidable incidents, such as road accidents and abduction of Prospective Corps members on their way to States of deployment, have put us in the spotlight in recent times l, therefore, enjoin everyone to put measures in place to curtail this negative trend.

“In line with a recent decision of the Management, State Coordinators are expected to take the campaign against night journeys to motor parks, transport companies, and other relevant stakeholders before the commencement of the Orientation Course.”

Also, State Coordinators must take proactive measures, including liaising with relevant agencies to evaluate the security situation in all Camp locations.

“Security should be beefed up before the commencement of the exercise.”

However, DG, frowned at many corps Members who derived pleasure in violating the dress code, thereby directing all the State/FCT Coordinators to enforce the dress code both for Corps Members during and after the Orientation Course Corps Members

“The NYSC uniform is a brand, which, apart from being a mark of identity, should be a source of pride for Corps members.

“Regrettably, Management has observed that most Corps members violate the official dress code and even tamper with the original design of the uniform. Therefore. State/FCT Coordinators are hereby directed to enforce the dress code both during and after the Orientation Course Directors are to monitor the level of compliance during routine inspection visits.

He, however, urged all State/FCT Coordinators to ensure full implementation of the above guidelines for the success of the Orientation Course.

According to him, this training is in line with this administration’s Policy Thrust to enhance staff competencies and work output. Given that we are in a dynamic world where the environment constantly evolves, there is a need for continuous upgrade of knowledge and skills of staff to align with global best practices.

“I urge you to pay attention to the resource persons and also use this forum to identify areas of lapses in your schedules and come up with workable solutions and best practices with a view to improving them.”

The Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association (BAVCCA) has raised alarm over the actions of Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, which they consider a direct threat to Nigeria’s democratic foundations.

At a press conference held on Friday, October 18, 2024, the National Spokesperson of the association, Ada Onoja, expressed deep concern over Governor Soludo’s disregard for the recent Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy.

Ms. Onoja described his actions as a “direct affront to our legal system and a blatant act of defiance against the highest court in the land.”

She highlighted several points of concern, including the subversion of local government autonomy, threat to democratic processes, political repercussions for President Tinubu, economic and social implications, and a call to citizens to demand accountability from elected officials.

The BAVCCA spokesperson, however, urged President Tinubu to take a firm stand in upholding the rule of law, warning that failure to do so may embolden other state leaders to act similarly, further weakening Nigeria’s democracy and governance.

She also called on all Nigerians to hold elected officials accountable for their actions and to champion the rule of law to ensure that democracy thrives in Nigeria.
