People’s Parliament Honours Minister of Steel with Special Tribute

The People’s Parliament Network (PPN), in Kogi, paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister of Steel, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, at his residence in Lokoja, Kogi state on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

During the visit, the group extended their congratulations to the Minister on his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Minister of Steel. They presented him with a portrait frame picture, a T-shirt, and exercise books. The exercise books, featuring the Minister’s picture on the cover, were intended to be mass-produced and distributed to school children in Kogi schools as a tribute to his role.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Comrade Musa Samuel, expressed gratitude to the Minister for granting an audience to the People’s Parliament and outlined the group’s core objectives, emphasizing their commitment to equity, fairness, and justice in Kogi state. He also extended an invitation to the Minister to become the Patron of the group.

In response, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the visit by the People’s Parliament and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the privilege and honor of appointing him as Minister of Steel. He emphasized the potential of Nigeria as a country and a land of opportunities and stressed the need for hard work to correct various issues in the country. The Minister pointed out that the largest steel plant in West Africa is located in Kogi State, specifically in Ajaokuta LGA.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the Ajaokuta Steel plant, which had been a long-standing issue despite previous administration’s efforts to revive the industry.

The Minister, however, highlighted that the President was committed to revitalizing Ajaokuta Steel and was actively working with a technical team to achieve this goal.

He urged all Nigerians to come together with prayers and support for the success of Ajaokuta Steel, emphasizing that its revival could generate approximately 500,000 direct and indirect jobs, including opportunities for members of the People’s Parliament Network.

The Minister also encouraged the People’s Parliament and the people of Kogi state to support the APC government, expressing President Tinubu’s dedication to preventing the state from falling into the hands of the opposition. He informed them about an upcoming Kogi Unity Consent event in Kogi state at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, primarily aimed at fostering peace and harmony among the youth and ensuring peaceful, credible, and successful elections.

The Minister called on the group to support the APC in the forthcoming rally across the state, expressing confidence in the party’s chances of winning the governorship election.

He concluded by highlighting that the APC in the state had been founded by his late father, the former Governor of Kogi State, Late Prince Abubakar Audu. He expressed his unwavering commitment to the party, emphasizing that those who didn’t understand his roots might consider switching to another party.

Musawa Seeks Broader Significance for June 12

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Esq., says June 12 must be remembered as a sacrifice that gave Nigerians democracy, beyond its status as a public holiday.

In a statement signed on Saturday by the Senior Assistant Media & Publicity to the Honourable Minister,Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy Dr Nneka Ikem Anibeze Ph.D in Abuja.

Musawa stated this at the national premiere of “MKO”, a film on Chief Moshood Abiola, held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Lagos, to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

She said 33 years after June 12, 1993, many young Nigerians know it only as a holiday, but the film turns it back into memory.

“For too many young Nigerians, June 12 is simply a public holiday. This film tells them that our democracy did not arrive by chance. It was fought for. It was defended. It was paid for. This documentary is in honour of the heroes of June 12, the men and women who gave their lives for the mandate of June 12, 1993 and for the democracy Nigeria enjoys today,” the Minister said.

Musawa hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Host, for his participation in the June 12 struggle and paying the price in exile, adding that Nigeria’s creative industry will keep telling the story of its democracy with courage.

“Through film and the creative economy, Nigeria will preserve its history. A nation that forgets its past loses its way to the future. Nigeria has a story and our story deserves to be told,” she said.

Earlier, the director of the investigative documentary, Ose Oyamendan, said the film was in honour and memory of heroes who fought for Nigeria’s democracy.

“There was Hope ’93 and now there is Renewed Hope. There was a man who sacrificed his life so we may have democracy and there is a man who almost lost his life fighting for democracy who is now helping build a lasting democracy.

“There was a great man called Bashorun MKO Abiola and there is now another great man called Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Democrats. Nationalists. Nation builders. Leaders of men and women. We must never forget our story. We must always honour and remember our heroes,” Oyamendan said.

Top government officials including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the wife of the President Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Chief of Staff to the President Rt. Femi Gbajabiamila, state Governors, members of the National Assembly, Ministers and other distinguished dignitaries attended the premiere.
