Rising cases of COVID 19 forces Ramat Cup postponement

This year’s Ramat Cup competition organized by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has been postponed, the organizers said on Sunday.

The President of YSFON, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said the shift was necessitated by the new rise in the cases of COVID 19 pandemic across the country.

Dr. Gawuna said though a new date has not been fixed the competition earlier billed to hold in the ancient city of Kano from February 5 -13 will now take place at a later date.

The President who is also the Deputy Governor of Kano State said the postponement was done to take care of the health of the players, officials, and others, who will participate in the one-week competition organized in honour of late Nigeria Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed by the body.

According to him, after due consideration of the new rising cases, the body found it necessary to move the competition forward to avoid participants getting infected by the virus.

The Deputy Governor said YSFON as one of the bodies responsible for the development of the youths through sports will always ensure the players’ interest remains paramount in its consideration.

He said that all logistics for a successful tournament has been put in place before the postponement, adding that Kano State will be ready for the hosting of the championship once the dreaded virus is curtailed.

NVBF President, Engr Nimrod Urges Families to Embrace Healthy Living at HOBA Novelty Sports

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has called on Nigerian families to adopt healthy living habits through regular participation in sporting and fitness activities.

Nimrod made the call on Sunday during the third edition of the Hoba Development Association, Abuja Chapter, novelty sports event held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

He noted that physical activities such as sports are vital to fostering family bonds, community interaction, and overall well-being.

“The rate of health-related incidents such as slumping is increasing, but regular exercise helps improve the health of both parents and children,” he said. “Events like this bring families together, allowing parents and children to interact and know each other better.”

Also speaking, the stand-in Chairman of the Hoba Community, Barrister Nathan Naandeti, highlighted the significance of the annual novelty games, describing them as a unifying platform for members of the community.

“It’s something we do every year to promote unity, togetherness, and fitness among our people. Sports is part of who we are,” he stated.

Men, women, and children from the Hoba community participated in various sporting activities, including volleyball, badminton, football, and aerobics—all aimed at encouraging relaxation, fitness, and bonding among families.
