Safety Travels Unveils AI Travel Assistant to Drive Safer, Smarter Bookings
Joel Ajayi
A travel management company, Safety Travels Limited, has unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered travel assistant designed to make flight searches and bookings easier, safer and more transparent for travellers.
The AI Assistant, described by the company as the first of its kind in Africa, was unveiled on Monday in Abuja during a media briefing organised to showcase the company’s latest innovation.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of Safety Travels Limited and Governing Board Member of the African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja, Hon. Chidi Nwogu, said the innovation was developed to take the company’s operations to a higher level while responding to rapid changes in the global travel industry.
Nwogu said the company, which has been operating for about 40 years as a family-owned business, was founded by his mother, adding that the latest technological development was part of efforts to preserve the company’s legacy while embracing modern trends in the travel sector.
He said the platform incorporates advanced technology to protect travellers’ identities and sensitive information, assuring users that their personal details and funds would be kept secure.
According to him, Safety Travels handles more than 5,000 passports belonging to high-profile clients, making integrity, confidentiality and data security essential to its operations.
Nwogu also urged members of the public to patronise credible and properly registered travel agencies, warning against fraudulent operators who impersonate legitimate travel companies through fake websites and online platforms.
He said the company’s long-standing involvement in Nigeria’s aviation sector had strengthened its commitment to improving the industry and ensuring that Nigerian travel services meet global standards.
Speaking on the features of the new technology, the General Manager of Safety Travels, Joseph Agofure, said the AI Assistant allows travellers to search for flights using voice prompts and complete their bookings online.
Agofure stated that the system has been trained to understand several languages, including English, Yoruba and Hausa, Spanish, Chinese, Igbo, Igede, Idoma, EFIK, Ibibio amongst others enabling users to make travel requests in a natural manner. The AI then processes the request and provides available flight options based on the traveller’s departure point, destination and preferred travel details.
During a demonstration, the AI Assistant processed a voice request for a cheap flight from Abuja to Lagos and generated different flight options with varying departure times and fares.
The platform also provides travellers with important flight information, including departure and arrival times, duration, baggage allowance, fare conditions and refund policies, before they proceed with payment.
Agofure said travellers could access the platform through smartphones, laptops and other internet-enabled devices, while booking confirmations and payment information are sent to the email address provided by the customer.
He further advised travellers to be vigilant when making online bookings, noting that fraudulent websites have been used to deceive unsuspecting customers.
He said the company’s official website is safetytravels.org, urging customers to verify the web address before making any transaction.
Safety Travels, which has operated for more than 40 years and is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, said it also has certifications in Nigeria and other countries, with branches outside the country.
The company expressed optimism that the AI-powered platform would strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s travel industry, improve customer experience and help position local travel services to compete more effectively with global standards.

Nigeria at 66: ‘We Must Not Lose Faith in Nigeria’ — FCC Boss Omidiran
Joel Ajayi
The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Honorable Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has called on Nigerians to use the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary to renew their faith in Nigeria, strengthen national unity and recommit themselves to building a more inclusive and prosperous country.
In her 66th Independence Day message, Hon. Omidiran described October 1 as more than a celebration of freedom, saying the anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, acknowledge its progress and challenges, and renew the collective determination to build a nation where every citizen has a sense of belonging.
According to the FCC Executive Chairman, the Federal Character Principle remains particularly important to the quest for national cohesion because equitable representation promotes a sense of ownership and confidence in the Nigerian project.
“Nigeria is a nation of great diversity and
enormous potential. Our responsibility is to ensure that this diversity becomes a bridge that connects us rather than a barrier that separates us. Every Nigerian deserves to feel that he or she belongs to this country and has a role to play in its development,” Omidiran said.
The FCC boss called on government institutions at all levels to remain committed to fairness, equity, accountability and inclusive governance, while urging citizens to support efforts aimed at strengthening national institutions and promoting peaceful coexistence.
“We must not lose faith in Nigeria. The challenges before us are real, but so are the opportunities and the enormous human and natural resources available to us. Every citizen has a responsibility to contribute his or her own quota to building the Nigeria we desire,” she stated.
The FCC Executive Chairman also urged young Nigerians to remain committed to acquiring knowledge and skills, entrepreneurship, innovation, sports and other productive ventures, describing the youth as critical stakeholders in the country’s future.
“As we celebrate 66 years of independence, let us remember that the Nigeria we want cannot be built by government alone. It requires the commitment of all of us – leaders and citizens, young and old, from every part of the federation. Together, we can build a Nigeria where justice, fairness, opportunity and peace are available to all,” she said.
Omidiran reaffirmed the FCC’s commitment to the effective discharge of its constitutional mandate and to supporting efforts that promote equitable representation and inclusive national development across the federation.
The former lawmaker wished Nigerians at home and abroad a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary, praying for continued peace, stability, prosperity and progress for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Our differences should never be greater than our common identity as Nigerians. Let us continue to choose unity over division, service over self-interest and hope over despair. The Nigeria of our dreams is possible if we all play our part,” Omidiran said.
“On behalf of the Federal Character Commission, I congratulate all Nigerians on this 66th Independence Anniversary. May this occasion renew our patriotism, strengthen our unity and inspire us to work together for a stronger, more equitable and prosperous Nigeria. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she added.
