President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Seyi Johnson, has expressed immense satisfaction with the quality of competition and the discovery of new talents at the ongoing BetKing 3×3 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Speaking during the tournament, Johnson praised the remarkable progress seen across the participating teams and lauded the event for delivering beyond expectations.

“I’m truly thrilled by the level of talent we’ve uncovered during this championship,” he said. “Some of these athletes are shining for the first time on a huge stage like this , and I’m confident that a few of them will make the cut for Team Nigeria as we prepare for the Nations Tournament in Agadir this June.”

Johnson also noted the increased competitiveness of the tournament, with emerging states challenging the dominance of traditional powerhouses.

“We’re seeing a real shift—states that were once considered underdogs are now giving the big teams a run for their money. It’s a testament to the growing strength of the game across the country.”

He commended the support that made the tournament possible, adding: “I want to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Ogun State Government, the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), our headline sponsor BetKing, and all stakeholders, fans, and supporters of wheelchair basketball.

This championship has not only lived up to expectations—it has raised the bar.”

The BetKing National Wheelchair Basketball Championship runs from April 3 to 7, 2025, and continues to highlight the transformative power of inclusive sports in Nigeria.

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has called on Nigerian families to adopt healthy living habits through regular participation in sporting and fitness activities.

Nimrod made the call on Sunday during the third edition of the Hoba Development Association, Abuja Chapter, novelty sports event held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

He noted that physical activities such as sports are vital to fostering family bonds, community interaction, and overall well-being.

“The rate of health-related incidents such as slumping is increasing, but regular exercise helps improve the health of both parents and children,” he said. “Events like this bring families together, allowing parents and children to interact and know each other better.”

Also speaking, the stand-in Chairman of the Hoba Community, Barrister Nathan Naandeti, highlighted the significance of the annual novelty games, describing them as a unifying platform for members of the community.

“It’s something we do every year to promote unity, togetherness, and fitness among our people. Sports is part of who we are,” he stated.

Men, women, and children from the Hoba community participated in various sporting activities, including volleyball, badminton, football, and aerobics—all aimed at encouraging relaxation, fitness, and bonding among families.
