South West Basketball Zone tips off 2022 calendar with secondary school championship

The South West Basketball Zone under Olumide Oyedeju has concluded plans to hold the Secondary School Basketball Championship for boys and girls to kickstart series of events in the zone.

The event is targeted at the secondary schools in Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states with registration already underway under the direct supervision of the various state basketball associations. The competition will commence in Ekiti State between the 16th and 17th of May before moving to Ondo on the 17th and 18th of the same month.

It will be the turn of secondary schools in Osun State on the 18th and 19th of May before Oyo State secondary school on the 19th and 20th. Ogun State will follow closely on the 20th and 21st before the train stops in Lagos on the 24th and 25th.

Oyedeji said, “In line with our vision of reviving the game in the zone, we felt it was right to start with the kids at the intermediate level as we build a platform where everybody can have a place on the table. We will engage primary school kids, secondary school students, and the tertiary institutions in the South West”.

Two winners (one male and one female team) will emerge from each state for the zonal finals to be played at a later date

Airwarrior Basketball Club Chairman, Celebrates Sallah with Journalists in Abuja

The event, filled with camaraderie and appreciation, provided an opportunity for Alhaji Solademi to acknowledge the vital role of the media in national development and the promotion of sports in Nigeria.


In a warm gesture of unity, oneness, togetherness and goodwill, the Chairman of Air Warriors Basketball Club, Abuja, Alhaji Abddulmajid  Solademi, hosted a group of Basketball Journalists on Saturday at his residence in celebration of the Sallah festivities in Abuja.


The gathering that shows the  importance of love, peace, and unity values which is crucial not just for the advancement of basketball, but for the overall progress of the nation.


However, the Sallah is a time to reflect on our shared humanity,” he said. “It’s a moment to support one another and to uphold the values that bring us together, rather than divide us.”


Guests at the event shared stories, enjoyed meals, Asun Rice, Oriental rice,  Jollof Rice, Swallow in variety with a lot of drinks that mede them to  engaged in meaningful discussions on the development of sports in Nigeria, with a special focus on grassroots basketball.


Many attendees praised Solademi for his unwavering support for the sporting community and his ongoing commitment to using sports as a powerful tool for youth empowerment and social transformation.
