Sports Dev’t: Ighalo Commends Minister of Sports

Former Super Eagles Goal poncher Odion Jude Ighalo has appluded the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Chief Sunday Dare over his strive toward the growth and development of sports in Nigeria that is yielding postive result at the moment.
The former Manchester United player stated this on Tuesday in Abuja during the tour of Mashood Abiola National Stadium that is wearing a new look courtesy of minister effort.
Ighalo thanked Minister for not putting effort to grow football alone but sports in general.
According to him, I want to commend Minister for renovation of this stadium.
“I will tell you the last time I played here was 17 years back, I remembered the pitch was great and after then, seeing the pitch on the TV is embarrassing but what I am seeing now I am really happy because this is main bowl, this is where Nigeria suppose to be playing our national team.
“I am happy its coming back to life, I can wait to see the pitch coming back to life.”
He added: “I see how you move closer to the national team, talk to everyone. I watched you on news and social medial and I say this is what we want for Nigeria Football not only football because we known Nigeria love football and everybody always glue at TV but all sports in general in the country.
“And I am really happy to appreciate what you are doing may God continues to give you the strength to move the sports to greater hieght in Nigeria.
When asked if given chance he will play for super eagles? Ighalo gently replied “Well, Nigeria is my country, when that time reach we will see but for now we have a good team and I just want to give the younger one opportunity and support them.”

Cricket: Nigeria To Host ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Cricket Federation , NCF, says it is ready to host five other nations for the International Cricket Council ,ICC, Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.
The tournament is billed for Lagos, with the matches to be held at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square ,TBS, and the University of Lagos ,UniLag, from March 26 to April 6.
Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, said in a statement on Sunday, that the tournament is about celebrating the growth of the game on the continent.
“Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos.
“Our nation is known for its warm hospitality and fascinating cricketing potential, and we are committed to making this qualifier a memorable experience for all.
“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players”, Akpata noted.
However, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone will join Nigeria to jostle for the continent’s sole ticket to the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will be hoping to secure the ticket, having achieved same feat in 2019 and competing at the World Cup in South Africa 2020
