Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Honourable Sunday Dare has led millions of plaudits in Nigeria and the diaspora in congratulating Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen for his remarkable achievement, in propelling his Italian Serie A Club, SSC Napoli to winning the 2022/23 Championship.

Having sidestepped the opportunity of winning it in their last home game, Oshimen clinched the title, by scoring the equalizer for Napoli, in their 1-1 draw at Udinese, a point that gave the Gli Azzurris (Blues) an unavailable 80 points, from 33 games, 16 points clear of SS Lazio and sent thousands of their fans, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium into a frenzy, chanting “Oshimen! Oshimen!! Oshimen!!!”

In applauding Osimhen, Dare noted that the 24 year old has succeeded in imprinting his name in the folklore of Italian football and sports; by becoming only the second Nigerian, after legendary Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins to win the Italian Serie A Championship.

Osimhen’s exploits in the colour of Napoli can never be undermined, having scored 22 league goals so far this season, dwarfed the record of 21 held by Samuel Eto’o Fils; and still got fivr matches, to set a new record as the golden booth winner – the first from Nigeria.

The likes of Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, Obafemi Martins, Kelechi Iheanacho, Fábio Cannavaro, Mario Balotelli and other well known football players have joined in the worldwide celebration of Osimhen, the Poster Boy of both Napoli and the Super Eagles of Nigeria, in light of his recent achievement.

The 52 minute goal scored by Osimhen, ended the 33 years wait for another Sccudetto for Napoli; for whom legendary Argentine captain, Diego Maradona is credited with almost single handedly delivered their first two titles in 1987 and 1990.
