Sports Minister Says Para Games Will Foster Inclusivity in Sports, Declares 2nd Edition Open

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh proudly declared open the eagerly awaited 2nd Edition of the National Para Games, marking the commencement of an inspiring showcase of resilience, determination, and extraordinary sporting talent.

The National Para Games, a testament to inclusivity and support for athletes with disabilities, commenced with a spectacular opening ceremony held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, attracting participants from various states across the nation. The Games stand as a beacon of empowerment and encouragement for athletes with disabilities to pursue their passion for sports at a competitive level.

Senator John Owan Enoh, in his inaugural address, highlighted the significance of the National Para Games as a platform to celebrate the spirit and remarkable abilities of para-athletes. He emphasized the government’s will to promote inclusivity in sports, providing equal opportunities for all athletes to excel and proudly represent their states and the nation.

The Minister expressed admiration for the dedication and perseverance exhibited by the para-athletes, commending their courage and tenacity in overcoming challenges to participate in this prestigious event. He reiterated the government’s unwavering support for para-sports, acknowledging the pivotal role such initiatives play in fostering unity, resilience, and national pride.

The 2nd Edition of the National Para Games encompasses a diverse range of sporting disciplines, offering a platform for para-athletes to showcase their prowess in various events. The Games aim not only to foster healthy competition but also to promote awareness and understanding of the capabilities of athletes with disabilities.

Dignitaries at the Opening Ceremony included the Honourable Minister for State, for Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, the Directors of the Ministry and other sports directors from various states.

Senator John Owan Enoh concluded by encouraging spectators to witness and celebrate the remarkable sporting talents on display throughout the National Para Games. He urged the public to join in honoring the achievements and determination of these exceptional athletes, whose commitment serves as an inspiration to all.

Cricket: Nigeria To Host ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Cricket Federation , NCF, says it is ready to host five other nations for the International Cricket Council ,ICC, Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.


The tournament is billed for Lagos, with the matches to be held at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square ,TBS, and the University of Lagos ,UniLag, from March 26 to April 6.


Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, said in a statement on Sunday, that the tournament is about celebrating the growth of the game on the continent.


“Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos.
“Our nation is known for its warm hospitality and fascinating cricketing potential, and we are committed to making this qualifier a memorable experience for all.


“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players”, Akpata noted.


However, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone will join Nigeria to jostle for the continent’s sole ticket to the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.


Meanwhile, Nigeria will be hoping to secure the ticket, having achieved same feat in 2019 and competing at the World Cup in South Africa 2020
