Sports Minister Tasks NFF on Congress Expansion to Accommodate More Stakeholders

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has called for expansion of the Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF) Congress, in order to accommodate other relevant stakeholders and ensure proportional representation for the good of the game.
The Minister asserted that football’s economic, social, and cultural value to Nigeria and its citizens means that whatever needs to be done for the development of the game should be undertaken in the interest of the nation.
“There should be an expansion of the NFF’s Congress to accommodate other stakeholders,” he said. “NFF’s Congress should be such that it is proportionally representative enough of all interests for the good of the game.”
He added that Nigeria’s football legislation should be adaptive to the uniqueness of the country’s composition and factors peculiar to it.
“If FIFA recognizes the unique situations in each country (as mentioned), then the NFF does not need to wait for the universal statute (of FIFA), as it may not cover those unique situations and we may not have control of the timelines,” the Minister added.
He said that the NFF should initiate and conclude all expected amendments from adoption through to ratification and approval within the next year and send the amended documents to FIFA.
“NFF should submit the action plan leading to the final amended statute with definite timelines to the Office of the Minister of Sports Development,” Senator Enoh stated. “As we need to make progress and bring this to a positive conclusion.”
The Honourable Minister held a strategic meeting with the executive board of the Nigerian Football Federation, as he reiterated his support to the Federation to bring positive change to Nigeria’s football landscape.

NEDC Disowns Circulating MSc Education Support Fund Application

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has warned the public against a fake and unauthorised message circulating on social media about an alleged Education Support Fund for Master’s degree (MSc) students.
The Commission, in a disclaimer signed by its management on Friday, described the purported programme, including its stated requirements and the alleged submission point at the NEDC office in Polo, Maiduguri, as false and unauthorised.
According to the Commission, it is not currently receiving applications for any MSc Education Support Fund as contained in the circulating message.
NEDC therefore urged prospective applicants and other members of the public to disregard the information and avoid submitting personal documents to individuals or locations claiming to be acting on behalf of the Commission.
It specifically cautioned the public against releasing sensitive documents such as National Identification Number (NIN) slips, admission letters, identity cards and indigene certificates in connection with the purported programme.
The Commission further warned the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes and the unauthorised use of NEDC’s name and identity to deceive unsuspecting applicants.
It advised members of the public seeking information on its programmes, interventions and opportunities to rely only on official NEDC communication channels and verified announcements issued by the Commission
