Sports Minister Urges Staff To Contribute To Nigeria’s GDP

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owah Enoh has urged the Senior Management Staff of the Ministry to take their job seriously and make profitable contributions to the Gross Domestic  Product (GDP) of the  country.


In a Press Statement issued by the Director Press & Public Relations Dept.FMSD Kehinde Ajayi (Mrs), Minister made this call at a two day Ministerial retreat organized by the Ministry for officers on grade level 14- 17, with the Theme “Towards Ensuring Strategic Performance Delivery in Abuja.


He noted that  the repositioning of the Sports  Sector for a better service delivery, is key and in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  

Senator Enoh reiterated that his desire is that at the end of the retreat the staff in attendance would be better informed, change their attitude to work and become more zealous and enthusiastic in the course of discharging their duties.


“My expectations are that, at the end of the retreat, the staff would be more knowledgeable, better informed, return their best  with more vigour, more zeal, more enthusiasm to contribute their quota in moving the ministry forward”

 The Honourable Minister appreciates the Management for their contribution towards the preparation of the  retreat , he urged them to step down the knowledge for every member of staff to be on the same page as the ministry is working towards actualizing it’s mandate.  


Earlier in her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary,  Federal  Ministry of Sports Development Mrs. Tinuke  Watti commended the Minister for his visionary leadership and his support towards organizing the retreat.


She informed the participants that the retreat is aimed at strategizing and repositioning the ministry to deliver on its mandate.


She encouraged all participants  to make meaningful contributions, constructive criticism   and knowledge sharing and advised them to pay attention to all that is going on to be able to  cascade the knowledge down to other members of staff that are not in attendance.

FCT Outplays Edo to Grab Handball Bronze at Gateway Games

Team FCT bounced back from their narrow semi-final defeat to hosts Ogun State with an emphatic victory over Team Edo to secure the bronze medal in handball at the 2024 Gateway Games.

In the third-place match played on Tuesday at the Alake Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the resilient FCT side dominated proceedings and overpowered their Edo counterparts with a convincing 30–17 win.

Displaying determination and teamwork, Team FCT shook off the disappointment of missing out on the final and ended the tournament on a high, earning praise from spectators and officials alike for their spirited performance.

Speaking after the victory, FCT Handball Coach Ayo Joshua attributed the success to the team’s resilience and strong desire to win a medal.

“We planned for gold but, unfortunately, we couldn’t achieve that. However, we are happy that we didn’t leave Ogun State empty-handed—we were able to secure the bronze medal,” he said.

“We have the best team, skillful players who follow instructions, and by the grace of God, come the next festival in Enugu, FCT Handball will come out even stronger.”
