Sports Ministry To Make Decision On NBBF Elections Soon

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has said that it’s studying the recent happenings regarding the two elections that produced two presidents to the office of Nigeria Basketball federation NBBF saying it will make its decision known soon.

In a press statement issued by the Director Press & Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Manga Mohammed on Wednesday in Abuja revealed that ministry will soon pass its judgment.

According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is aware of the recent developments around the Elective Congresses of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) in Benin City and Abuja on Monday, January 31st, 2022.

“The Ministry awaits the reports of the Congresses upon which it will make its position known.”

It will be recalled that on Monday, parallel elections concluded in Edo and Abuja respectively where two the congress elected their presidents. 

In the elections held at the Royal Marble Hotel in Benin City, with 37 delegates from the States voting, Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida was re- elected as President of the Federation for the next four years. Babatunde Ogunade was elected as the Vice President. Ugo Udezue was elected as the South East representative, while former D’Tigers Captain, Olumide Oyedeji was elected as the representative of the South West. Others elected are Abba Kaka Abdulkadir (North East Representative), Deshi Adam Janlong (North Central Representative) and Yusuf Surajo (North West Representative)

AljazirahNigeria Sports who was in Abuja reported that a seasoned basketball administrator and former player, Mark Igoche have been elected the new President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF.

In Abuja, Mark Igoche was elected and sworn-in in a congress held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, along with Osita Nwachukwu as Vice President.

Ex NFF Scribe, Fanny Amun Drums Support For Shehu Dikko’s NSC’s Leadership

The Former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Fanny Amun has called on the sports stakeholders in the country  to give the needed   support the administration of Shehu Dikko National Sports Commission’s leadership, saying that doing so would benefit the sports sector immensely.


The renowned figure in Nigerian football, Amun made this appeal on Wednesday in Abuja in a press conference where he expressed that all sports sector in the country need right now is the unity and commitment of all stakeholders.

 According to him, NSC of Nigeria is undergoing a transformative phase with the appointment of Malam Shehu Dikko as Chairman. 


He said that this new development aims to rebuild and formulate policies for better regulation and oversight, ensuring a productive and result-oriented structure from the central to local levels. 


“The sports community has faced long-standing crises, often fueled by self-interest and power struggles. 

“However, with Dikko’s leadership, there’s hope for a fresh start. His appointment is seen as a bold step by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and many acknowledge Dikko as one of the best hands for the job.

“ I want to encourage warring factions to resolve differences and work towards peace in other to foster an environment conducive to sports growth in Nigeria,” he said. 

Amun said that this diversification is crucial for Nigeria, as the country has a vast potential for sports development, which can contribute significantly to the economy. 

“Diversification can bring numerous benefits to Nigerian sports, including: Increased Investment by exploring new revenue streams,Nigerian sports can attract more investors and sponsors.
 “This development aims to rebuild and formulate policies for better regulation and oversight, ensuring a productive and result-oriented structure from the central to local levels. 

“I have already diversified, it’s essential for stakeholders to follow suit to adapt and diversify to propel Nigerian sports to move forward,” he said. 

He  also urged the media to play an intermediary role, promoting peace and encouraging stakeholders to work together. 
“By doing so, Nigeria’s sports sector can move forward, benefiting from the expertise and vision of leaders like  Dikko,” he said.
