The Secretary General of the Nigeria Dance Sport Federation (NDSF) Emmanuel Oladele on Saturday sought the support of all Nigerians to help grow the dance sports in the country.

He made this appeal during the exhibition of dance sports that was full of strength at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The exhibition showcased different dances in groups and individuals, like break dance, waltz, tango, cha cha, samba, and rumba amongst others.

He expressed that, there is a huge potential for dancing sports in Nigeria if properly harnessed.

According to him, this is our second year of exhibition. We actually started in September 2015 which was our first edition. Dance is an activity but has not been seen as a sport.

“Recently, the International Olympic Committee announced dancing as a sport that will be performed live. We want to discover athletes who will do the nation proud locally and internationally.

“We are building a federation in Nigeria that will harness the dancing potentials in the youths for the growth of the country. Dancing will help Nigeria grow, and create job opportunities,” he said.

Speaking in the same vein, a board member, Ochai Ogaba said the aim is to participate in the forthcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

“Our ambition is to get what dancing deserves for the dancers to represent Nigeria. We want to get individuals that will make up teams ahead of the Olympics in 2024. It will be great that we make it to Paris,”

He stated further stated that the federation wants to discover and develop dancers that will represent Nigeria in local and international competitions.

They were in Abeokuta to felicitate the Governor following the official presentation of the 2024/25 NPFL season trophy to Remo Stars.

The Governor said it is commendable that the NPFL season has been adjusted to run parallel to most global leagues which are concluded before the month of June.

“While the champions, our own Remo Stars from Ogun State was crowned on Sunday, there is just one more game to conclude the season which means the season will be shutting down this May just as will be the case with most European leagues. This is commendable”, remarked Abiodun who was in Ikenne for the elaborate trophy presentation ceremony.

He also lauded the NPFL Board led by Elegbeleye for organising a hitchfree season that produced a champion without rancor.

“It is to the credit of the NPFL Board led by my brother, Elegbeleye that we had this beautiful trophy celebrations today with all stakeholders united in agreement that we have a worthy winner in Remo Stars”, the Governor told his guests which also had in attendance, some NFF Board members including Ganiyu, Aisha Falode and Silas Agara
