Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare, has called on Nigerians to take advantage of the flexible payment plan introduced by President Tinubu’s administration for converting vehicle engines to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

In a series of tweets on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Chief Dare highlighted that both the United States and Europe have long embraced alternative energy sources such as electric vehicles. He noted that the flexible payment plan provided by the Nigerian government would ease Nigerians’ transition from expensive Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to CNG.

“I have been an early convert to the CNG option which President Tinubu approved as a national policy. It’s forward-thinking. America and Europe have embraced electric cars as alternatives to expensive PMS. Let’s embrace CNG. The Convert Now, Pay Later option should turn into a national campaign immediately,” Dare tweeted.

He also emphasized the benefits of CNG beyond transportation, advocating for its use in electricity generation and heating, similar to its application in the United States and Europe.

“The Convert Now, Pay Later initiative by the Federal Government is a brilliant and pragmatic option in these times. Nigerians should be jamming the portal gocng. ng for an easy online application and quick approval process. Let’s go the CNG way,” he added.

Chief Dare expressed confidence that the initiative would place Nigeria on a sustainable energy path, benefitting both the economy and the environment.

No Leadership Vacuum in NYCN – Council Reacts to CAC’s Alleged Withdrawal

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has noted with concern recent reports alleging the withdrawal of its certificate of incorporation by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC),

alongside the purported appointment of an interim management team by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD).

In a statement Signed President, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo and  NYCN Board of TrusteesOn Wednesday in Abuja

According to the statement, wish to state categorically that the leadership of the NYCN under Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo remains the only legitimate and legally recognized leadership, as affirmed by the Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1553/2022 – Incorporated Trustees of the NYCN & 4 Ors vs CAC & 3 Ors.

In that judgment, Hon. Justice D.U. Okorowo upheld both the validity of the NYCN’s certificate of incorporation and the lawfulness of the current leadership structure. While this matter is presently under appeal in Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/13081/2023, the High Court ruling remains valid and binding until set aside by a higher court.

Therefore, any actions taken by the CAC or FMYD to withdraw the certificate or appoint an interim leadership are illegal, premature, and in contempt of court. These actions amount to a clear case of self-help and an attempt to undermine the rule of law.

We urge all NYCN members across the federation—state chapters, zonal coordinators, affiliate bodies, and Nigerian youths at large—to remain calm and law-abiding. Disregard any announcements or directives from unauthorized individuals or agencies seeking to destabilize the Council’s leadership.

The NYCN remains committed to unity, peace, and youth development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

“We call for collective focus on building a stronger, inclusive, and forward-looking Council that truly represents the voice and aspirations of Nigerian youths.”
