TAPP Shortlists 5 Students For Final Playwriting Prize

The organizer of The Arojah Students Playwriting TAPP 2020 has shortlisted 5 universities Student across the country for the Final of the maiden edition TAPP 2020

In a statement signed by the Prize Administrator Paul Liam on Wednesday in Abuja saying Winners will be announced in October.

The names of the student and the institution includes; Bayowa Ayomide (University of Toronto): Recyclable Chairs; Ojo Joshua Miracle (Obafemi Awolowo University): Justice: A Mirage; Ojo Olumide Emmanuel (ABU Zaria): Headless Sacrifice; Omowunmi Damilola Osuolale (University of Ibadan): A Tale Told by Idiots and Yusuf Abdulkadir (ABU Zaria): The Just Cause.

According to the statement, following up on the long list, released on August 1, 2020, we are pleased to announce the shortlist for the maiden edition of The Arojah Student’s Playwriting Prize (TAPP 2020). They are (in alphabetical order):

“To provide exposure for the shortlisted playwrights, a play reading session would be organized for them on Saturday, September 5, 2020; to enable them to engage with the literary community.

“And to further horn their playwriting skill, the top 30 playwrights from this competition will participate in an online Playwriting Masterclass (Playwriting and Creative Process) with Makinde Adeniran and UK based, Rob Wilson on Saturday, September 19.

“This maiden edition of the prize was adjudicated by the Head of Theatre and Performing Arts, Bayero University, Kano; Ola Ifatimehin, Ph.D.; award-winning playwright, literary critic and legal practitioner, Isaac Attah Ogezi and Korean based playwright, scholar and communication consultant, Okeke Izuchukwu Job.

This year’s competition is focused on Transparency, Governance, Anti-Corruption, and Culture of Accountability.

The initiative is supported by MacArthur Foundation and CITAD and by endorsed by the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) while powered by Arojah Royal Theatre and the International Centre for Creative and Performing Arts (ICCPA).

NTDA, NIHOTOUR Strengthen Partnership at Joint Management Retreat

The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) and the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) recently held a joint management retreat at Ibeto Hotel, Abuja. The retreat brought together key management officials from both agencies to foster collaboration, address industry challenges, and develop strategies for advancing Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sector.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NIHOTOUR, Aare Dr. Abisoye Fagade, expressed excitement about the retreat and urged management staff of both agencies to engage in meaningful discussions to find lasting solutions to shared challenges. “We need to focus on strengthening inter-agency synergy between NTDA and NIHOTOUR”, he said. He also emphasized on the importance of teamwork in achieving sustainable growth for the sector.

The Director-General of NTDA, Chief Folorunsho Coker, called for stronger collaboration between the two agencies, stating, “It is time for collaboration, not competition.” He also highlighted the critical role of technology in transforming Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality industry, urging stakeholders to embrace digital innovations to enhance service delivery and global competitiveness.

The joint management retreat served as a platform for knowledge sharing, strategy alignment, and renewed commitment to the growth of Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality landscape. It reinforced the shared vision of both agencies to position Nigeria as a top destination for local and international tourists.

The retreat yielded actionable strategies that will drive growth and innovation in the tourism and hospitality industry.
