THE HEROIC APC NORTHERN GOVERNORS ; THEIR UNFLINCHING STAND FOR TINUBU AND THEIR PLACE IN NIGERIA POLITICAL HISTORY

Published

on

When and not if Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins the February 25th Presidential Election , a certain group of Northern men will go down in Nigeria Political history as not only Heroes but Legends and Protector of our collective Political Commonwealth.

These men are the sitting Northern APC Governors who fought against all odds to ensure that Asiwaju does not only win but the unity of our Country is put first.

The APC has 22 Governors across the Country out of which 14 are from the North.

Out of these fourteen , ten of them started the process of ensuring no cabal in the Villa had its way to deceive President Muhammadu Buhari to keep Power in the North.

As a student of history who is from the Southern part of the Country , Abia State to be precised, I have read alot about the Political History of the Northern Nigeria but in all I have read , one thing that is scarcely associated with them is Betrayal.

And in the current Political climate , this is exactly what is being reaffirmed by these steadfast APC Northern Governors.

These Governors are standing firm on their commitment of non betrayal to ensure Power shifts to the South in the next Administration.

The Governors are staying resolute that it is totally unfair to allow power remain with them in the North after eight good years of their brother, President Buhari in Government.

Leading this team of history making Northern leaders is the Governor of Kaduna state Mallam Nasiru El Rufai, alongside Governors like Dr Ganduje of Kano, Professor Umara Zulum of Borno, Abdulahi Sule of Nasarawa, Muhammad Yahaya of Gombe , Bello Metawalle of Zamfara , Simon Lalong of Plateau state and former Governor of Sokoto state, Aliyu Wamakko.

The same way people of my generation read about some of our past political Heroes , I am sure it is the same way our children and children’s children will read about these dogged Northern APC Governors, decades after we must have long gone.

These Governors did not just start supporting Asiwaju today but have long made up their minds against the selfish and greedy wishes of the so called Aso Rock cabal.

These cabal have been on a long road of failure in their attempt to stop the Presidential ambition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The cabal thought they have had their way when Adamu Aliyu became the APC National Chairman.

Asiwaju in his astute political intelligence continued working behind the scene quietly.

This same cabal were the one behind the Presidential candidacy of Ahmed Lawal in the APC primaries but were publicly disgraced by the support of these Northern Governors that ensured Asiwaju emerge the Party’s flag bearer.

It will be recalled that in June 2022, when these Northern Governors smelled the relentless selfish ambition of the Cabal , they came out boldly with a statement on why Power cannot remain in the North.

The Northern Governors were quoted saying,

“After careful deliberation, we wish to state our firm conviction that after eight years in office of President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2023 elections should be one of our teeming members from the southern states of Nigeria”.

“It is a question of honour for the APC, an obligation that is not in anyway affected by the decisions taken by another Political party”.

“We affirm that upholding this principle is in the interest of building a stronger, more united and more progressive Country”.

These above Statement was signed by 10 of the 14 Northern Governors including the Former Governor of Sokoto state Aliyu Wamakko.

One would have ordinarily thought after all the failed attempts, the cabal would have talked themselves into realities and swallow their Shame to join the winning train but that is still not the case few weeks to the Elections.

But unfortunately for these cabal , the train has long left them and their say and influence in the final outcome of the Election is infinite decimal compare to the influence these dogged Northern Governors wade in their various states.

The latest twist to the New Naira Note issue where the plan of the cabal has once again been thwarted by the decision of the Supreme Court and the Council of State showed why the APC Northern Governors must be commended.

Therefore Bola Tinubu’s biggest joker in this Election will be these heroic Northern Governors who are about to write their names in Gold in the Political History of Nigeria.

Alake Inaugurates Nigeria-US Solid Minerals Committee, Dismisses $700bn Claim, Says No Assets Sold

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, on Tuesday inaugurated the Nigeria-United States Committee on Strategic Cooperation in the Solid Minerals Sector in Abuja, dismissing reports that Nigeria sold $700 billion worth of solid minerals to the US.

The inauguration followed the strategic cooperation framework established between Nigeria and the United States during the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head PRESS and Public Relations Department Mrs. Kania Maliki Andeyaba stated that, Alake in the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed with the US is a government-to-government platform to facilitate business-to-business engagements between American investors and Nigerian local operators, not a sale of assets.

Harping on the importance of the solid minerals sector to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic diversification agenda, he noted that the administration was committed to reducing dependence on a mono-product economy through the sustainable development of Nigeria’s vast mineral resources.

According to him, the Nigeria–US partnership as a strategic initiative to attract investment, promote technology transfer, strengthen local mineral processing and create employment opportunities.

“There is no sale of any Nigerian asset. There’s nothing exchanging hands,” Alake declared.

“We created a platform to facilitate mingling of US investment ventures with Nigeria’s local operators. It is in the public domain. We signed it in public and published it in four or five national newspapers.”

The Minister said reports claiming the US was coming to take over Nigeria’s minerals and security architecture were untrue at best and products  of riotous imagination  at worst.

Explaining the policy thrust, Alake said Africa has historically held the short end of the stick in global economic transactions, and Nigeria is determined to change that model.

“We have the resources, the critical elements the world needs to transit to clean energy. So we are creating a new paradigm — you bring your capital, expertise and technology, to match with our natural resources and create a win-win situation . The investor gains, Nigeria gains.’’he said.

Nigeria, he stressed, had operated a mono-cultural economy dependent on oil, while solid minerals were exploited informally — with ores taken “from pit to port” without value addition.

Alake said government has now made local processing mandatory, refusing to grant mineral titles to investors without a clear pathway to processing in Nigeria.

He said the policy led to the springing up of processing factories, including the largest lithium processing plant in West Africa commissioned recently in Nasarawa by the Vice President, and informed the formation of the African Minerals Strategy Group.

Alake noted that investor confidence has returned due to macro-economic reforms by President Bola Tinubu that guarantee security of tenure and repatriation of profits.

He charged the committee to discharge its assignment responsibly, saying its work is strategic to achieving the President’s $1 trillion economy target.

To this end, he told the Committee to ensure effective coordination, identify investment opportunities and translate the framework into measurable outcomes capable of positioning Nigeria as a competitive player in the global solid minerals industry.

In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo, said the inauguration translates growing bilateral engagements into a structured framework for practical cooperation and investment mobilization

Economic Officer at the US Embassy, Jonathan Baas, said President Donald Trump has prioritized three areas for US embassies — energy, artificial intelligence/super intelligence, and critical minerals.

Baas said Washington’s direction is to work with partners to secure critical supply chains while ensuring partners capture value.

“We just signed a contract today on looking into building AI data centres in Nigeria at the Nigerian Economic Summit. That’s the direction Washington wants us to go,” he said.

In his vote of thanks, CEO/Managing Director of Nigeria Solid Minerals Company, NSMC said that the committee

is expected to coordinate implementation, facilitate investment and monitor progress towards achieving the objectives of the Nigeria–US cooperation framework.

The inauguration reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to repositioning the solid minerals sector as a key driver of economic diversification, industrial development and national prosperity under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
