TIG Gymnastics Club Leads Nigeria to Success at African Championship in South Africa

Team Nigeria has once again made the nation proud at the ongoing African Club Gymnastics Championship in Centurion, South Africa.

Represented by the TIG Gymnastics Club, Nigeria secured an impressive haul of four medals three gold and one bronze.
The Africa Club Championship for Gymnastics in in Centurion, South Africa, in 2025, is actually the CGC Level 4-9 and class 0-2 Artistic WAG and MAG Competition took place August 15-16, 2025, at the Centurion Gymnastics Club.

The prestigious competition saw participation from over 250 gymnasts across the African continent.
The event featured both Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) competitions.

Despite being the sole representatives from Nigeria, TIG Club made a remarkable impact with a delegation of 16 talented gymnasts.
At Level 7, Angela delivered a stellar performance to clinch a gold medal. Dida also showcased outstanding skill, winning gold in her category.
Pelumi Ilesanmi added to the tally with another gold medal, while Jockey Ibrahim secured a well-earned bronze.
The achievements of the TIG Gymnastics Club are a testament to the growing talent and determination of Nigerian athletes on the international stage.

LEADERSHIP Newspaper’s Salifu Usman Receives SWAN Fellowship In Recognition Of Sports Development Efforts
Salifu Abubakar Usman, Group Sports Editor of LEADERSHIP Newspaper, has been honoured with the Fellow of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) award, in recognition of his exceptional support for the association, professional journalism, and his significant contributions to sports development in Nigeria.
The esteemed accolade was presented during SWAN’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration, held in Abuja, marking 60 years of excellence in sports journalism across the nation.
Upon receiving the award, Salifu expressed profound gratitude, describing the honour as a source of inspiration and renewed motivation to further his lifelong dedication to sports reporting, promotion, and growth.
“This award gives me hope and motivation to do more. It’s a source of inspiration for me and my family, and I believe it will encourage me further in sports reporting and sports development in Nigeria,” he stated.
Salifu highlighted that this recognition serves as a morale boost following decades of hard work and impactful contributions within Nigeria’s sports community and beyond.
The SWAN Diamond Jubilee Celebration attracted prominent figures from sports administration, the media, and government sectors to celebrate individuals and organisations whose efforts have significantly advanced sports development and journalism in Nigeria.
