Top International Athletes queue up for Enugu city Marathon

Top International Athletes have continued to show interest to be part of the Enugu City Marathon billed to hold on the 3rd of May 2025 in the Coal city State.

The Maiden edition of the Enugu City Marathon has continued to generate widespread attention and buzz both within and outside the Country from interested runners.

Nigeria is undoubtedly becoming a hub for Road Races not only in Africa but in the World, especially due to the huge success of road races like the Gold labelled Access Bank Lagos City Marathon and the Ogun Women Run.

And Organisers of the Enugu City marathon, Nilayo Sports Management Company and the Government of the state have started working on modalities to ensure it sets new standards for the race.

The race is expected to showcase the beautiful landscape and tourist potentials of Enugu state to the entire World and will further prove the tireless hard work of Governor Peter Mbah in transforming the state to becoming one of Nigeria’s fast growing modern states.

The Enugu state Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, said the state cannot wait to welcome all the different runners and the interest from the international athletes have very impressive.

” His excellency, Governor Peter Mbah understands clearly the power of Sports and where Enugu is in the history of Nigerian Sports, and the Governor is very determined to return the state to its glory days of Sporting excellence. And this is one of the ways”.

” As a state , we have everything to stage a world class Road race and the Government is ready to make history come May 3rd this year”, he concluded.

Lawal Delivers Another Brilliant Performance in Europe

After displaying great form for Istra 1961against Vukovar in the score draw encounter in the elite league few days ago in Croatia, Salim Fago Lawal has continued to enjoy rave of the moment status in the Eastern European nation.

On Wednesday, Lawal was on the scores sheet for Istra in the 75th minute against Kurilovec, but it was only for consolation, as Istra crashed out of Croatian cup in round 16.

It was a masterpiece display from the former Flying Eagles striker, whose work rate has shown great development after joining Istra from modest Nigerian clubside in 2023.

He has scored three goals and two assists, totally five – goal contribution as a striker so far this season.

Interestingly, two other Flying Eagles players, Israel Ayuma and Charles Agada, who are also former players of Mavlon FC, featured in the game and they gave good account of themselves.

Sadly, it was not the day of victory on the pitch for the three former players of Mavlon FC of Lagos.
