Volleyball: Nigeria U19 Boys qualify for final at Àfrican Championship

Nigeria becomes the first Sub SaharaAfrican team to enter a back to back final in the U19 Boys African Nations Volleyball Championship.Nigeria put up a wonderful display against Cameroon 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 28-26, 25-16) in the semifinals match of the ongoing 2022 U19 Boys African Nations Volleyball Championship in Morocco.

Nigeria stumbled in the first set to Cameroon by 18-25 points which led to coach Adekalu Adeniyi making some changes. In the second set, Cameroon led in the early set by 18-12 before Nigeria turned the game around to win 25-21.

The third set was tight as both teams were on each others neck.

Cameroon and Nigeria took each sets simultaneously before Nigeria eventually took the set by 28-26 points.

The fourth set was a stroll in the park for Nigeria as they won by 25-16.

An elated coach of Nigeria U19 Boys Team, Adekalu Adeniyi said, “I am overwhelmed with the performance of the players and their ability to interpret the tactics given to them in a short period.

“Cameroon took us by surprise in the first set and I was wondering if this is not the same team I watched few days ago.
We had to regroup in the remaining sets and you can see the results of our tactical changes.

Adeniyi said the next challenge is to return the U19 trophy to Nigeria and compliment the efforts of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.

He said, “The major goal is to win the U19 trophy  because we have what it takes to become back to back champions.

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation led by Engineer Musa Nimrod have provided the necessary requirements for the team to excel; the ball is now in our court to make the nation proud.

On the eve of the closing ceremony alone, Ghana clinched eight gold medals, winning the ultimate prize in women’s hockey, 200m men’s athletics event, high jump, men’s football event, and four boxing gold medals in boxing. All in one night.

Ghana also made history by becoming the first country to win god in both men’s and women’s football events at the Games.

The closing ceremony of the Games saw star performances from star acts such as Stonebwoy, Stanley Enow, Wiyaala, Innoss’B, amongst others.

As Ghana continues its upward trajectory in the realm of sports, the nation stands poised to achieve even greater milestones under the visionary leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Sports minister, Mustapha Ussif.
