We Have Quality To Retains Abuja Veterans Tournament Trophy- Coach Patrick

Abuja Veterans Tournament defending champions of Abuja Veterans Tournament, Abuja All-Stars club, Technical Adviser Bassey Patrick has said that his team have all the needed ingredient to retain the title it won last year.

The second edition of the tournament kicked off over the weekend have 12 participating teams inside FIFA Goal Project Pitch Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja where team teams are slugging it out.

Speaking after they narrowly defeated USF FC 1-0 in the opening game of the invitational tourney Coach Bassey Patrick, saying that all-star club have all it take to win the trophy again, we have quality material and all the ingredient to emerge the winner.

Describing the match as a tough one saying they came with a determination to win because USF defeated them in the opening game of the first edition last year.

“It was a tough match for us because we played the opening game of the first edition with this same team (USF) and they defeated us. We know that they are a good team and we prepared very well for them.

“We came with the determination to win and we put everything in place and made sure we got the victory. We believe we will improve and play better in subsequent games and we want to take each game as it comes.”

Other matches of the day saw Nyanya All-Stars beat hard-fighting Unity Veterans by 2 goals to nothing, Corporate Kickers 2 Metro City 0 while Likeminds and Alieta All-Stars settled with 2 goals apiece.

NSC DG, Hon. Bukola Olopade Wins Sports Administrator of the Year at New Telegraph Awards

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has been honoured with the prestigious Sports Administrator of the Year award at the New Telegraph Awards, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports development in Nigeria.


The award, which took place on Friday, celebrated Olopade’s transformative leadership, administrative excellence and longstanding commitment to building sustainable sports structures across the country.


A seasoned sports administrator, Olopade has served twice as Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State, where he spearheaded progressive reforms and talent development initiatives. His leadership footprint also spans multiple strategic roles within Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.


He is a former President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, where he championed inclusivity and the advancement of para-sports. 


He also served as Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria National League (NNL), strengthening operational efficiency and league management structures.


In the private sector, Hon. Olopade was Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, playing a key role in delivering internationally recognised sporting events and elevating Nigeria’s profile in global road racing.


Under his current role at the National Sports Commission, in conjunction with the chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, Nigerian sports has witnessed renewed hope, improved coordination and enhanced stakeholder confidence.


The New Telegraph Award further affirms his impact-driven leadership and dedication to repositioning Nigerian sports on both continental and global stages.
